  • Porting Head Finished

We finished porting the head tonight and will be getting it machined tomorrow. Attached is a "teaser" pic of the head half done. Neil (Gorgonheimer) will be posting the complete port thread soon.

    • Water Pump and Oil Pan Gasket

Made some good progress tonight. Re-connected the e-brake cable, installed the new water-pump, and replaced the oil pan gasket.

      • Silicone Sealant

Used Permatex 85080 RTV Ultra Black Oil-Resistant Silicone. Really great stuff unfortunately quite expensive too; try $16.99 per tube.

                • Flip Flops In Garage = Bad Idea

Even the fall and winter in Houston Texas can be warm; but wearing flip flops in the garage is never a good idea. Tripped over the engine hoist and cut my toe open. Sad, but probably will not learn my lesson.

I know it's gross but hey...

                    • Interior Update

Got quite a bit done this weekend. Injectors all cleaned and up and gaskets replaced, wiring harness for injectors rewrapped and wired, alternator and bracket swapped from Festy engine, exhaust manifold installed with new gasket, ran 2 gauge wire for rear mount battery, routed all audio cabling for sound system, installed protege seats, installed new steering wheel with hub adapter, finished installing front half of inside trim, and topped it off with some nice new black rubber floor mats.

Hope to get the custom vinyl door panels started tomorrow after work. Got black and blue vinyl from a buddy and Neil (gorgonheimer) is hooking me up with some door panels he fabbed a while back. Just need to pick a few items up from Home Depot and will be ready to go. Plan is to post a separate thread on the vinyl job. Coming soon.

                      • Clutch and Transmission

Finished putting the motor and trans back together tonight. Got the clutch completely rebuilt, trans bolted on, starter connected, and began preparing engine bay for the motor mounts.

We will be cutting into both sides of the engine bay to make room for the protege trans and a little extra room for the A/C install later. Will also have to fabricate a motor mount for the front and relocate the side mounts since we do not have the crossmember. Hoping to get the mounts built and the engine in this Saturday.

                          • Door Panels

Made some new door panels today. Actually my buddy Neil (gorgonheimer) had already fabbed the new panels out of hardboard. You can get the hardboard and the adhesive from Home Depot.

Anyways, still need to install the handle, arm-rest, and window crank. Will post more pics when these are re-installed in the Festy.

                            • Engine Bay Cut-out

Got the engine bay cutout for B8 to fit in. Wanted to make sure there would be plenty of room to change belts and add A/C this spring. Will be mocking up some cardboard jigs to reinforce the holes we cut out and dropping them by the shop for fabrication. Have a great welder...(gorgonheimer).

                              • B8 Set in for Mounts

B8 set in the engine bay and ready to begin mocking up some mounts. It is a tight fit between the radiator and the steering mechanism; will have to be just right.
