  • My very very very slow build.

Thanks to uni i dont have a whole lot of time to work on my car but here it is anyway.

I got the car for free and only had to fix some small things, all damage from the previous owners daughter.

Fill in rear Quarter panel + paint.
    Engine oil leak
    Windscreen
    4 tyres
    Exhaust system leak
    Wipers
    Battery bracket
    Left parklight
    Right seatbelt
    Right head light
    Gearbox selector bushes
    Clutch and brake pedals
    Full degrease

    Then she looked like this,

I added some small things like custom lights in the speedo and blacked out lights.

    Some new speakers,

Then i had everything done just had four new tyres put on. Then something went very very very wrong. The clutch gave out on the way home, and i had to drive about 15km not being able to go any faster than 55km and having to take off at 5000 rpm ahha, im assuming it finally choked from the added weight from the new tyres. Then to add on top of that i noticed a couple of days later just after it had been raining the car had condensation on the inside of the windows. Turns out that the panel beaters didnt close up the light properly and the whole car was about 2 inches underwater.

    So i guttered the interior

And took off most of the firewall insulator

I found a little bit of rust so i ground it out and primed up the back.

I then bought some spray glue and rubber sheets and made some new firewall insulation.

    Then underlay and carpet.

    Now the front end

I opened up the value cover and welll umm oh dear.

Out she comes! I tried as had as i could and that damn passenger (RHD) axle would not come out. I broke a half inch thick steel screwdriver.

    Taking a break.

    Took the gearbox off.

This would explain why the clutch was slipping.

Since the engine was out i decided to fix the damage that the daughter did to the frame support. Also Bought a g series tranny (Left of photo).

    Cutting.

    Out.

Bought the new frame and mocked it on. I have some doubts about it, i think it's molded off the US frame and i believe they change a bit from Australia.

I tacked the support on and it isnt straight called the supplier and they wont replace it because ive tacked it on. Soo im going to try and find a new supplier which is tougher than first thought.

And that's where im up to. Found a 323 sitting on the side of the road and it's been there a while so might talk to the owner in buying it. Or buying a second gen festiva (aspire) so i can convert to efi and take the brakes etc.

I have 6 weeks holidays in about a month and these test are starting to get to me, the thought of working on my festiva is getting me through.

Wow man! Love to see that amount of pictures, work, and dedication. Nice job you're doing on it. Seeing as you've found yourself a G series tranny, have you thought about any other engines? Is that why you're interested in the 323?

Hahah that's about it for now. Yeah the car got painted from the rear quarter all the way up to the door and the rest of the car got a crazy buff job. She's been in the garage for the while so it's been protected.

Qld P laws.. are they similar to nsw laws.. as in can't drive a custom or changed motored vehicle.. a friend of mine wanted a landcruiser running a newer landcruiser motor and was disallowed.
is their any more options on engines apart from the bp , b6 or those similar motors.. familia motors.. what car are they removed from and any power boosts ?

yeah mines been out in the rain since dec >__< and it really needs a wash and some new rear doors.. the tops on the rears are rusted and have rooted the door seals.
first i need some trio parts (qld flood damaged trios ) and cv joints..
then i will think on an engine whilst i get some welding skills and do the doors.

yeah its a hassle trying to pass small things.. we cant have turbo's on P's , exception to turbo diesels.. (newest Golf Gti diesel is quick ) and with our engine mods we are right hand drive so most of our steering crap may get in the way..

Looking good man, love to see those shots of the empty RHD engine bay, still haven't ruled out doing an RHD conversion on my white car while the motor is out of it. Steering rack still has me a littl puzzled but I have an idea that may work If you have time I'd love to see a couple more shots of that engine bay, especially the steering rack and brake booster, and also the passenger side of the interior with the dash removed Great job on the car so far! Looking forward to the finished product.
                  No festiva for me ATM...

Thank you very much. Yeah i want to put a bp in it which is why im looking at the 323 and also the aspire (so i can scab efi parts and suspension parts off) but there is a lot more b8 323's than bp 323's so im hoping it has a bp in it. I dont have a job and study 5 days a week and after rent etc doesn't leave me much work on car time ahah.

And brayy there's some dodgy places in nerang that are a bit kinder on road worthy.

Yeah trying to pass the car they wouldn't pass the car because it had a tiny fay in the seatbelt.

And yeah being a provisional driver i cant drive a turbo. Not until im on my opens which will be anther 2 years away.

Yeah definitely the festy is at my mums place about 100km so ill be down there on the weekend, you can just pm me what photo's you want and ill get onto it right away.

Yeah mums got a mate who works in town here (nsw) and he also works in miami.. he passed my festy with the steering wheel cover moving, seats frayed like crap and he didn't check anything else.. its good when mum knows people xD
any of you other blokes suggest any 4cl diesel engines ? we should be able to turbo those and get away with it ;D

haha.. the 323 gtx is very similar to the tx3 laser.. any major engine differences ?
i want to do the rwd festy ;D and the tx3 is awd.. so therefor remove the fwd and we have a rwd.

Engines are the same. The tx3 came in fwd and awd. I was thinking about a rwd festy the other day, it would take a lot of work like cutting out the wheel well re-routing the exhaust then adapting the tx3's rear axle to fit into the festy. Do-able but a lot of work.

Your interior looks just like mine!

I am just waiting for some warmer and drier weather to push it outside the garage.

I enjoy looking at rust free metal.

                              No bodywork required.
