  • It's the stock replacement clutch on the Gseries from the protege so I figure it should do fine on a car that weighs quite a bit less.

      • Got the whole shebang in late last night, that was quite a squeeze, but there's plenty of room all around now. Today I started plugging it all back in, I'll finish tomorrow and get this thing roastin' my old 12's!!

        • CV axles are the spawn of the devil, while putting in new seals today I found that the driver's side hole was not round from one of my attempts to remove the axle with a chisel, so I had to stuff the old and tattered seal back in with extra silicone, hopefully it won't leak too much. Then while trying to get the pass.side axle in (with greased up splines and all) the axle goes halfway in and I can't figure out why it won't go the rest of the way in. If something ever goes right on this project I will praise whatever god had mercy. I'm about ready to scrap the whole freaking thing.
Update, now I've got both axles halfway in, yay?

          • How torn up can the seal be? the only part that is messed up is the part of the seal that sticks out past the case, as far as I can tell it's just a dust shield type bit. I put silicone around the seam between the trans. and the seal. I would like to know how much this is going to leak

            • I caved and there will be a local Mech. coming over tomorrow to get these cursed axles in. Maybe something will eventually go right on this project, but for now the hood probably won't clear the intake tube due to the box thingy that has the port in it for the idle bypass. Is that hose from the intake tube to right under the TB even necessary? Getting really sick of everything fighting me. I leave for college in 2 weeks and the 'rents are getting ticked off that this isn't done.

              • Got the axles in, I got a rad hose coming in tomorrow at NAPA, it runs! I started it and ran it or like 30-45seconds with NO OIL! I was a complete idiot and forgot to fill it. Hopefully I didn't kill it. I have to order a new intake tube from ebay because the one I got is a 3incher, and it takes a 2.5 incher, so I cinched down the pipe, but it didn't idle for crap. I hope to sweet lord jesus I didn't kill it.

                • It runs and drives... sort of, the idle is pretty high (I plugged the IAC hose because my intake doesn't have a fitting for it, do I need to unplug the actual sensor thing?) I read that I could do that here http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/sho...lock+off+plate I haven't had time to check if the throttle is binding at all (Festiva bracket on the BP is a little off kilter but I think it should work.) And there was a lot of steam coming off the manifold and I can't tell if it was from the water I spilled when I was filling it up or if the HG is toasted. I'll also tighten the upper rad hose as it was spewing water onto the radiator. Any suggestions for a lower rad hose? the universal flex hose 20" long from Napa kept kinking at the radiator and water pipe on the block.

                  • HAHA SWEET. Good news man now you just gotta work out the kinks! The bypass tube doesnt have the water bung for the iac? The barbs should all be there somewhere with a stock intake.... you should really try to make that work unless you live in nc or Fla where it stays pretty warm.

I don't think you hurt anything running it for a short period of time w/o oil, probably just gunk burning off, see if it happens after an hour of running, then you might have a problem.

That iac sends a signal to the ecu to go into closed loop, so if you do bypass it manually(don't hook up coolant hoses) make sure you bypass it electronically(send closed loop signal to ecu) or you'll be running rich all the time not getting the full power or mileage.

                    • The tube I plugged was the one that goes to the intake, for air around the throttle plate when the throttle is closed. I just plugged the hose, I didn't unplug the wires.
Edit: Maybe it's called the ISC? it's the thing beneath the throttle body that has a 3/4" hose going to the plastic part of the intake tube. I read that I could plug this, reset the computer and let the car relearn how to idle.

                      • Update, my throttle cable was too tight, so now I got rid of the high idle, and it falls on it's face and dies if Ilet off the throttle which is to be expected with the idle hose thingy plugged, off to CP.com to find how to make it idle.

Why not just use the ISC? thats an issue I had when I did my swap. I ended up drilling a hole in a some old pipe I had laying around and using a NPT fitting with some hose. Assuming you are talking about the blue hose that runs to the up and over intake in my pics.

                          • yea the haynes manual refers to them as the isc-bpa, same deal, iac valve..

use it, don't try to jimmy it and bypass it. I don't understand why the stock bungs aren't there for you to just hook it up?

                            • Yup, that's the hose I'm talking about. My ebay flex intake tube has no way to add fittings to it, it's made sort of like a slinky in a condom so there's no good way to drill in and add a fitting. Right now I have it idling ( a little low I think but I have no tach to check.) I grounded the sti port and got no codes so everything else is hooked up right. I also forgot to ground the sti when I first adjusted the idle, but I grounded it and tried again and there was no difference (the BISS is all the way out at this point. Thanks for the help guys, just gotta get this road worthy so I can drive it when I'm back from college.
