I'm still a fan of the vx wheels. Festiva tires are either free from someone upgrading, or cost the same as performance 14" tires, very little in-between range these days. Also if you can locate a set of the civic vx's and you change your mind there is always market for them.

If you plan on making the same mpg festiva into a speedy festiva at a later date, go ahead and do that aspire swap and get the vx wheels. check out the several suspension threads, there are coilover options, simple spring cuts, back and forth about what shocks to purchase etc.

there is something to be said about a stock 1.3 festiva in a great set of tune that has brand new suspension components and can be abused and late braked on every corner...over a fresh motor swap where everything creaks and clunks with dry rots tires and brake fade. Driving a slow car fast>driving a fast car slow.

You sure? My underhood diagram shows the two timing marks on the pulley... I figured one was TDC and the one it points to was roughly 10*...

I know the XR2 said 10* and the diagram looked roughly the same.

^^ I road test every car that has adjustable timing. Load it with 1+passenger, find an uphill grade and let her rip, if there isn't knock on 87 octane you are leaving a little on the table. The condition of your engine dictates how much you can squeeze out. Manuals state that a little audible knock is acceptable but that is on a brand new engine, and definately with no aftermarket anything.

If your not fussed on looks and want large mpg. then http://www.aerocivic.com/
            LOL.
Who was trying to gain higher mpg by adding wheel spats and a large tunnel spoiler ?

I consider MPG only a fraction of real life economy. The fact that our cars are less to insure less money on tires over a new automobile that has stock 16 and 17" tires, can use walmart oil vs special 0w-20 etc pays dividends even if they go thru the same amount of fuel. The purchase price for many of our beloved festivas is a whole car payment.

I love the kammbacks and the sealing off panel attacks. It just makes them hideously ugly LOL. I'd only do it on a road trip where i plan on never seeing anyone face to face again

What are wheel spats? and i may try a few things but i'm going to pass on that due to the fact that it looks like more body work than what i want to do. Thanks for the info though.

That would be Darlo. Not sure if it actually had a noticeable benefit.

I'm an Aspire guy, but I hear the carby festy's get better gas milage than fuel injected festy's. I was talking to a guy at a stop light in a festy awhile back and he said he was getting 48 mpg after he messed with the carb. I wouldn't think it would be too hard to swap intakes if you wanted to.

Wheel spats are the rear wheel coverings on really old cars..
this is an EH holden Wagon with wheel spats..

and An EH Holden Wagon without Spats..

dunno about the benefits of gaining mpg in such an old car that had little to no aerodynamics to start with but i guess it could benefit our cars more..

First Gen Honda insights had 'em, too. Good for highway mpgs since they reduce drag, and they could be fairly easily made from sheet metal.

I've dubbed what my brother has done with the festiva as a hillbilly racing cadillac special aka Caddystiva (mostly cause of the hood ornament)

I didn't get any interior specs yet but im gonna take more before pics anyway.

I heard the opposite but at this point considering the festiva i'm redoing is free well thats good enough.

Though this makes me want to know pros and cons of carb vs fuel injectection when it comes to festivas
