      Got some more work done today, got the final rear floor panel cut out and in place. I just need to weld it in, but I have to figure how to hold it in place better first.



      Hopefully welding it in Tomorrow after work!

        • My protege drifts way better than a subaru 40-60 torque split is way better for kicking the rear end out should be the same bias on this setup as I'm using protege/gtx stuff.

          • Sweet!!! I wasn't sure how they were split thanks for the info!!! I'd love to feel a little launch in your car, some suby's are nuts!!

            • Well in order to keep my trans alive I rarely launch. If I can locate another (they come up from time to time) I'll try a couple at the track.

              Welded on a piece of angle to add a little more rigidity to the floor pan:



              I will be screwing the rear floor piece to it so it will be held in place while I weld it in. Eventually this will all get a seal to keep the moisture out, but have the sub frame removable still.



              Also... Apparently clamping with a c-clamp that was made in china is too much to ask...



              I was tightening it and it decided to break in half...

                    Today's progress... Drilled me some holes and slapped in some bolts!



                    Well partially. I didn't want to punch through the bottom just yet. I'll save that for tomorrow I think.

                    I gotta figure out how I'm going to drill these holes...



                    I'm thinking shorter bit and a right angle drill attachment...

                    I have a hole saw I am going to use so that I can put my pipe bushing between the unibody so it doesn't crush upon tightening.

                    • Can you get to it from the bottom? use a punch to mark the center and drill it from the bottom?? lol ..i dunno, you'll figure it out i'm sure..

                      • I mounted the subframe with existing smaller bolts, then drilled up & worked from there:



                        Did you use locating dowels to positively register alignment with the chassis?

                        • not yet Man, This is just the sub frame I made, the precise alignment will take place when I mount the miata crossmember to the sub frame. Once I get it in place I'm torquing it down and drill pinning it at all 4 corners to keep it from moving.

                          • Picked up this right angle attachment for $18 and it did the trick with a small drill bit so I could get all the way through.



                            Then I went up from the bottom with the larger bit.

                            6 bolts through the sub frame and the unibody!



                            I think my bolts might be a touch too long...



                            I'll probably just lop them off or turn them down in my lathe. Still deciding if I want to use what I have or go back to grade 8 hex head bolts... maybe button head fasteners? decisions decisions...

                            I added some more sheet metal to the sub frame so it would seal up well enough on the sides too.



                            That's probably it till Friday. I need to take a day off and do some laundry and clean up around the apartment tomorrow.

                            On another note... I had a slip waiting for me in the mailbox, I have to pick up my seat covers at the post office tomorrow on lunch. Can't wait, I gotta get the AWD swap done just so I can use the seat covers!
