  • Frost 90 Festiva

Guess I'll start a build thread for the 90 festiva.
Its in rough shape but i am slowly fixing it to drive to school and back, so i will use this to post questions and progress.

It's black but it's called Frost because plans involve painting it white sometime, and my ranger is called Red Rock, So Frost and Red Rock seem like a perfect match.

First question, how does the FMS cam affect gas mileage?

Will try to get pics soon.

My honest opion on moding the 1.3... Its a waste of time.

say you start with 63 HP, by the time you add cams, headers, remove the cat, extruded hone the intake you may be up to 70 HP. It will make more noise but I dont think you will feel it in the seat of the pants

    money pit

No spitters were I work, you swallow it all. The Company feels if you already have it in your mouth why waste it.

yeah i'd love a b6t or bpt swap, but since fms is having a sale on the cam i figured if it helped at all and wasnt bad for mileage i'd get one. When the b3 gets pulled out its going to be turned into a trike so it wouldn't be a total waste to do some stuff

find a B6 and put that in with the cam, that will put you over 90hp and you WILL feel that.

IMO, for the price, buy the FMS cam now.....even if you never install it in the B3. At least you'll have it for future use if you ever swap to a B6. If not, I'm sure you'll always be able to sell it for what you paid. I paid $125 for the same cam a couple years ago.

lol i do have a turbo laying around, but there is no way the b3 would spool it. It's off a 6.0l powerstroke. Been thinking about putting it on my crown vic or chevy c30 though.

Well i pulled the dash out of the 90 last week, and after finding out i didn't have the heater core like i thought i did i pulled the extra heater core from the parts car. Today i put the 90 back together.

Yesterday i bought one of the pioneer christmas special bundles, the cd player (with usb and aux in jacks) 2 6x9s and 2 6.5" speakers for $85, sounded fair enough for me. I just ordered the radio adapter (didn't want to cut up the factory harness) So part of the mission this week is going ot be trying to hide the speakers and 2 10" subs and an amp so they look factory and don't show. I'm also going to try to get the right CV shaft swapped from the parts car and try the shocks from the rear too and try to get her road worthy by next weekend. I also still need to swap the fender, bumper and marker light over from the parts car, but that can wait til i get it driveable. I am also in process of completely stripping the parts car, hopefully within the next 2 weeks i'll be able to send it to the crusher (I know destroy me if you must) and the money i get from that will go towards parts to replace some valves on my Ranger.

I need to get them running soon, I'm afraid my Taurus (which has had a failing transmission for 80xxx miles) is fixing to have some serious problems so i need something for back up.

i am still planing on swapping the 4 speed for the 5speed one of these days but it'll probably be a few months, or atleast until i get the Ranger going again.

And I'll try to get pic later.

Also fogot, I should have a trailer hitch made up for it soon too, just waiting to get some box tubing to build it.

Lol well today i got a mod i wasn't expecting. I ran to town to get some food and while i was there i swung by my shop to check something on the Festiva, and somebody put a decal on the back window that says "I'm bringing sexy back". I'm 6' 3" and 300lbs, i use that line as a joke between my friends so i know it was a friend so i'm not mad about it. I found it freaking hillarious.

I got my two 6.5" speakers installed under the factory rear speaker grilles. Looks a lot better than the hack job 6x9s mounted on top of the old grills. I think I've decided on a location for my new 6x9s (under the front seats, as far forward as i can get them). I got the wiring harness put together, just need to attach the ground and run my sub lines. I need to mount my 10s in the back thinking about trying mount them in the hatch (gonna need some heavy duty shocks), I want to keep the system stealth ( i probably won't even worry about the 10s since i have plenty of sound anyways, but i have them already so we shall see where they end up.

Tommorow i should hopefully have enough time to get my rear shock and passenger cv shaft put in, been waiting for us to get a van out of the shop (It's cold here right now, high is in the 20s tommorow for Arkansas!!!!)

Yesterday i went to the local junkyard and they crushed the festiva that was there last time :-( But i got all the parts i needed to fix the interior in my buddy's silverado (luckily they had a blue interior there) I also found a CLEAN early 90s 2 door Geo Metro (I was very tempted to try buy it from them and fix). Then i found a Miata that need some work, I kind of wanted to get it too (6' 3" i look funny getting out of them lol) Is their anything in a Miata that i could put in the Festiva? They also had an escort wagon there ( i think they will probably crush it within a week since they just pulled the motor out) but i don't have a rear wiper so i didn't grab the motor.

And i scored a set of Mazda Sundowner emblems off the bed for FREE! Dad had a Courier so when i saw those emblems i knew i had to have them.

I have a couple of pictures that if i can my phone to sync with my computer (Don't hold your breath) i will upload on here.

Also since this car will evolve with me, I have been having a VERY hard time trying to figure out my life career goals and i recently stated thinking about trying get on the Highway Patrol when i turn 21 (Going to get my CDL too, as soon as i can find someone to loan me a truck, even though it won't do any good since I'm only 19). Any help with a good career is more than welcome (I really want to have a reason to pay for all this schooling)

                      The hack job i replaced

                      Trimming the cover
                      Final result vs Old Hackjob

LOL I love my friends, spent $5 to buy me this awesome sticker
Parking space was a little tight at the shop i put my Festiva and Taurus where we normally park 1 car. These are (believe it or not) not touching and never did touch, until my brother saw it and started rocking my cars into each other lol.

I'll get some pics of the Sundowner emblems later, still not sure what to do with them. And i will try to get some full car pics of the festy.

And does anyone know where i can get a set of underseat tray rails?

Sorry for the small pics they were taken on my phone.

LOL she is no beauty, the previous owners did some "body work" (I use that term losely) and then decided to spray paint the whole car black. So i have slowly been peeling the spray paint off the places they didn't sand, So the roof and part of the hood are the factory teal and the rest is flatblack, some of the interior is lime green for some unknown reason lol.

I'll try to get some pics of my parts car too (1st Festiva that i had my brother buy while i was 700miles away and the car is unsafe to drive, and when i won't drive something you know it's bad. Paid full blown retail for it to, never trusting him again), that way people don't burn me at the stake for destroying it.
