I don't know for sure, but from clubprotege searching it says small nose and large nose are not interchangable. Then looking at rockauto.com 90-93 protege's had .865" crankshafts, and the 94's had a 1.063" crankshaft .......so I guess that's telling us it's just the 94-whatever's

I really don't know tho, that must just be the shaft size sticking out of the block, because all the main bearing part #'s are the same 90-94

I'm going to go ahead and post this so you guys can tell me how stupid it sounds.. I'm looking at having to buy a 180$ distributor+50 core charge, so I was looking into COP's. The only thing I'm not sure about that would keep me from having to buy a distributor is putting a hall effect sensor on the camshafts. I've been searching here and cp.com, but I haven't found anyone who has actually done it, they just cap off the cap/rotor button part of the disty and run the cop's. Is it a practical idea, can it be done? How would you do it? I am planning on buying a MS system.

This is a nice thread on COP's, if anyone wants to read it.
Forced Induction - Detailed write up.... HOW TO DO A Coil On Plug CONVERSION - Recently, I?ve been receiving a lot pm?s about the C.O.P (coil on plug) conversion on my car. I haven?t seen a post here on Honda-Tech about how to set it up, so I decided to make one. I?ve done this setup on quite and few vehicles...

Also, just pulled the axels out of my e series transmission lol, it's already sold!

The driver side axel is being sold with it, it only has a little over 5k miles on it. The passenger side was factory, 170k, so I ripped the cv's apart and I'm going to make a strut tower brace with the midshaft lol..

Thank you for the extra info, despite the fact that we are mortal enemies . Yeah I think it's just a revision for the end of the crankshaft to fix a breakage issue. Early Miatas had this issue too, on the 1.6 motor in 1990 and some 91s. 1994 was the year the BP went into the Miata, too, so it makes sense that it's the same generation of that motor in the Protege, starting with that year.

Yea sucks for me tho, the closest 94 protege engine is 3x as far away as the 93 and 50$ more. So it looks like I'll end up with a small nose crank, unless somebody has a large nose crankshaft sitting around for cheap. I'm planning on rehoning the cylinders so it's getting taken apart anyway.

Trade me gauge clusters and all will be right with the world!

lol, Megasquirt controls the COP's, they have built in igniters so after MS gets it's signals from the CKP and Miata CAS he has, the COP's fire.

I got the new BP! It looks like a beast, I can't wait to get this thing running under its own power again!!!1!

Today before work I went and looked at the early 02 rio I got the struts/springs from, I held the block plate up next to the tranny and ALL the bolt holes except one line up. One at the bottom that just holds the plate to the tranny..won't matter, important thing is it will work. I should be able to get it in the next couple days.

My plans for this car is to get a valve job and port the intake, then try to push 200+ hp with a turbocharger. Next week I'm ordering a megasquirt standalone and a stage 1 clutchnet clutch for a rio transmission, unless I find cheaper parts that are as good or better. Let me know if there's anything else I need, I think a stock intake/exhaist manifold will work but I'm getting a cometic head gasket to keep up with the pressure. What else will I need?
