First post I've done here so this is a bit of a test.

Here's what I have so far.

Yup, there he is... Much like Jon Rood's from California back in 2004-2006, our festiva is rally prepped and has been through 2 races already!

Here he is the day we got him. Sold for $200 :eeeeeekstill running!):eeeeeek:

From here it was a matter of stripping and caging, I felt so bad for the poor guy cause he was soo dirty

After we cleaned him all up it was time to get down to racing business... So we gave him a brand new windshield and full roll-cage to beef him up a bit... safety wise anyways.

Here we are with the prep-work done, getting his picture for the local newspapers who decided to run an add being it was the first local racer for the 100 acre wood national rally the town has ever had in the 20 years it's ran.

What I failed to mention is that all the prep work was done with an under $2000 budget (including the car himself) and within a 1 month period! :eeeeeek:

    And race time!

Doing good till we found this tree at about 45mph:cry_smile:...

Was he out?!?! :nono: He was able to press on after a quick pull by me and the driver! (notice our pretty front lights... :cry_smile

Most people (~90%, fellow racers included) said it we were a longshot to finish. See for yourself, everyone was surprised the little festiva made it, (even when some of the other higher end subarus couldn't cut it :nono

Hey guys! I'm up here in Rolla and Rusty has talked you guys up ever since I told him I was looking into buying a Festiva. I went to the 100 Acre Wood Rally this year and saw your car run. I'm sure it was loads of fun even if you weren't quite as fast as the other cars.

I even took a picture of your car!

I know it's not a performance mod, but I mean you pretty much have to have a Spoiler if you are racing it!

I love the pic of the festiva airborne! That's just awesome :thumbright:

A simple BP swap is definitely one of the easier swaps to do (wiring wise especially) and it really adds power to a festiva, it would really help you compete

                1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
                1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

That's the plan, as I have no experience swapping/rebuilding engines. That's one of the reasons I joined this forum. We do have a few mechanics that know engine swaps, but I'm near 100% sure they haven't done something festiva-related.

If you're handy with a wrench this site will make a motor swap go pretty smoothly. There's a lot of us here who have done swaps and will gladly answer questions and provide input. Best place to start is MattSwabbs BP swap guide on here. It pretty much covers most of it.
                      No festiva for me ATM...

BP Swap = make motor mounts (1 if you use the stock trans, 3 if you upgrade the trans) run 2 wires to the ECU..... That's the just of it

We have a fabricator on call for us actually so with the help of the guide the BP swap should help, soon we will have enough racing coefficients to turbo the little guy and actually make him super competitive against all the dodge neons in our class.

Unfortunately right now he's out of order due to what I believe is a broken valve cover gasket along with a busted timing belt (haven't taken a real good look yet). So getting his stock motor working first is our primary goal, over the late fall/early winter we'll get that swap done I'm sure of it now!

Something we are having issues with is front suspension, which I was just lookin at the forum for, I bought some 250lb springs and tokico inllumina inserts but we cant seem to get them to fit. I'll be asking questions about that soon.

I know little to nothing about rally racing, but I wouldn't want to run a stock E-series trans & clutch behind a BP in a competitive application. A broken trans case or slipping clutch may make it difficult to finish. The strong low-end torque of the BP may make traction an issue and the added weight may be harder on the front suspension. I believe I would look at a B6D/F-series or a B8.....maybe even a strong B6 with an add-on turbo??

Just speculating that something with a little more low-end than the B3 but stronger in the upper RPM range may work better? Will an engine swap effect the class you race in or the rules?

Sweet! Loving the input guys, it's def what I was hoping for. When we turbo a 2WD car we would be thrown into the stiffer competition G5 class. A powerful normally aspirated engine would probably be best for our next years competing when I really think of it, and by then we will probably have a built up clutch, transmission, braking system as well.
