The last test drive went okay. I drove her around the neighborhood for about 15 minutes, then let her idle in my yard for another ten or so. The temp needle approached, but never reached, straight up middle position. The fan did not come on. A little of that "olive drab paint" fluid went into the formerly dry overflow tank. (I'll be cleaning that out again.) I suppose the overflow would be normal for a long idle time?

Here's a pic of the engine bay, with a better view of the new radiator:

And here's a pic of that common 10mm bolt size, along with a new project:

In case you can't read the bolt size, it says "M6-1,0". These were 16mm long, but there were other lengths available.

The new project is to adapt this welding rod case I got from HF this morning to become a small underhood tool kit. In a stock Festiva it would fit into the passenger side firewall area. I need to figure out the hardware and method of attachment, and how much weight it can hold, etc.

In AquaMutt, it will fit into the area right behind my right headlight, where the old airbox used to be.

I had issues getting the lower battery tray bolt loose on mine as well. I actually snapped it off in the frame rail some time back. Sooo, this last time, when I had the motor out, I drilled it out to a 3/8" hole and stuck one of those square nylon license plate push nuts into the hole. Works great! Best part is the bolt will never sieze up in the nylon.

Good idea! That may be what I'll have to do. If I manage to get the actual bolt out okay, I'll use some anti-seize on a new bolt.

That's a great idea, I think I remember you mentioning the under hood tool kit. What all do you plan to have in there? Basic 3/8 ratchet, 10/12/14/17 mm sockets, long and short extentions, pliers...channel locks vs pliers vs vice grips?, 14/17mm open end wrench?, Haha, how much can you stick in there???

            Matt, we shall see!!

I also need to figure out a "basic car tool and parts kit" for each one of my cars. Some day.

              Sweet Festiva Karl!

I like your classic work bench; the steel table. It looks like a slider with an optional center section.
