early golfs are a similar weight to mine, i got 4kg/mm front and 3kg/mm rears tho which are softer than the 5 and 4 that normally come with it. the fronts feel soft but rears hard, might be the dampening set to hard tho ill check. pretty sure its just that its so light back there. i can literally lift the rear corner off the ground no probs

havent driven it yet, wishful thinking but maybe tonight!

      Re: db103 from ozzzzzzzz

How much does a db weigh?
      My DA weighs 720kg.
      That's a good 400kg lighter than most mk2 golfs.

        a mate had a mk1 golf, he was around 800kg. mk2 probably 950 i dunno

coilovers in, front hubs etc on, ride height slightly lower, and now its at rwc. not sure if he'll like the coilovers, we'll see. technically as long as theyre adr approved (which they *cough* are) and im not too low and have enough suspension travel which i do - shouldnt be a drama. im not that confident but at least ill know either way

these calipers foul the swaybar at full lock under bump, not but much but still. fouls on the lower caliper bracket slide bolt

          some pics of the BC's, ive got enough for a writeup which i might do when i have time. just a few for now;

this is how much the fronts are out

top works good with the little spacer included. maybe camber plates one day, not a priority at the mo

          rears, not ideal but works

the bush is pretty small to be taking this load. ive seen less cop worse but it'll still be temporary, ill figure out a urethane one that'll utilise the whole top of the tower soon. the spring doesnt fit the tower so that isnt an option as it'll just wander from center. you need to preload the bush quite a lot to stop it making a light thunk. with more tension it'll stop it, but as i said that bush is pretty small and not ideal. towers fine though

needed a few things but now its passed

ready for monday then it'll be on the road after 6-700 clams

drives pretty good for coilovers, glad i went for the lighter spring rate. just to clarify, 4kg/mm fronts (224lb/in) and 3kg/mm rears (168lb/in) and on softest setting it rides a little stiffer than stock. i havent tried it jacked up yet, still on the softest setting. the rear does like to move though, even going a little quick around a roundabout i can feel it twitching. i wouldnt be keen on going much stiffer, for the rear at least. could get away with the front being stiffer though

Those settings are just a little harder than mine.
What did you have to fix to get it passed?

a couple little things i forgot about is all, 130k's on it most of it is good as

rego'd today nice to be driving about in it. handles nice, i havent pushed it much but so far its working good. its not as slow as i remember either, under 80 it goes pretty good. slightly more tempting to give it a bigger engine tho

i tightened the rear suspension up top, doesnt thump any more feels quite good

i was looking around the shed and found a rear windscreen sunshade. kinda forgot i had it. its back on now cos why not

also refitted the intake i made for it ages ago. made for noise, i dont care much about the rest. does seem to have stopped some midrange hesitation, that might have been just stale fuel i dunno

gunna lower it some time in the next couple days, ill see how it looks at bang on 100mm clearance (legal over here) and maybe go a touch lower i dunno

Try running a can of Seafoam through the fuel system as it seems to restore some lost power, Decarbonize the cylinders and also clear out the carby/efi jets.

They recommended the following for a seafoam cleaning:-

1/3 of a can in the fueltank, 1/3 of a can in the pvc or brake booster hose and 1/3 can in the oil. did the first 2 and it seemed to give back some response to the throttle and cleared out any issues i had, plus it seemed to smooth out any little rough spots that could be felt and haven't had an issue since.

i get it from this guy in nsw...

he also has the deep creep spray that goes hand in hand with seafoam on his page too.

runs ok now no need for seafoam
