Just one more reason to throw the timing cover as far as humanly possible any time it comes off for any reason.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Well I've got almost 200 miles on the rebuild. I scored some sweet, cheap wheels today. Dual bolt pattern so this will push me to upgrade my brakes to the aspire units I have laying in the garage for the past year.
It is still so much fun to drive! I got the exhaust pipe welded up and I got an o2 sensor bung installed. Really nice old guy. He was going on about how he used to soup up pintos back in the day. It was fun.
I've ordered all kinds of parts for the aspire brakes. I have rebuilt knuckles already, just need to do the calipers. I also ordered new kuhmo 165 60r14s. 52 bucks a piece. I could have got them for 32 dollars but I think that it was some crap brand.

You do know the spring isn't supposed to hold the tension right?
The spring shouldn't be doing anything but "setting" the tension until you torque the tensioner bolt. Then it's actually solid while the engine is running.
My point is that it shouldn't cause a timing issue if the spring lets go, unless it compeletly shreds the belt or it got jammed between one of the gears and belt on the tooth side. I guess you might hear it rubbing if you got your ear really close, though. IDK.Last edited by sketchman; 08-10-2014, 05:41 PM.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

I didn't think it was supposed to and I am trying to think of what I could have done wrong. When I took it apart the tensioner pulley bolt was still tight. It was idling fine it drove fine until I gave it a little gas then it bogged down then nothing. Bad belt maybe? I have no ideas. It could have got caught between the belt and the bottom gear then slipped time?
