  • Tweaks Re-build thread

Okay, since I never started an actual build thread for Tweak, because I was half way finished with the car before I even heard about this website, I figured I'd start a Re-Build thread. I hurt the engine pretty good last year at the Thanksgiving weekend Pro AutoSport event, and have been too busy to fix the car all year. I wanted to run this event again this year, and I found a suitable replacement engine at a pull a part yard a few weeks ago. Here are some pictures of what I have done over the last couple of weeks.

Got the pistons nice and clean with some acetone, and then boiling hot water and dawn dish soap. I decided to re-use the original rings because they were in great shape and had less end gap than my new Hastings rings. The donor engine had 146K miles. It was from a 92 Capri Xr2.

The donor engine had a long nosed crank, but I swapped in a short nosed crank because that's what Tweaks pulley setup uses. I made a custom alternator underdrive pulley for this setup and it works really well, so I wanted to keep it the same.

Ready to bolt in the car.

Freshly cleaned/surfaced head with new valve seals.

I used b660 intake and exhaust cams

I put a heat shield over the coolant bypass tube, because this tube is right behind the turbo and it tends to boil the coolant, especially after the car is shut off.

some pics of my removable front lower support. This piece is a secret weapon when it comes to putting torque to the ground. It solves all the chassis flex issues that the Festiva has.

Here you can see how close the coolant bypass comes to the exhaust manifold. The shield seems to make a big difference.

    Almost complete

Honda civic dual core radiator fits 2" further forward than stock with my custom lower support. I also clearanced the upper radiator support for the radiator fill.

    fired right up, runs beautiful.

I put 500 street miles on the engine to make sure it was solid and brought it to the track. Ran 15psi with all weekend (just under 900 track miles at full tilt) with no problems at all. I'm running a stock tune with no overboost switch in the system and water meth injection. It pulls dead even with a z06 vette down long straight sections. This car is amazing on the race track.

More updates to come, hope you all enjoy the pictures, sorry it took 3 years to post a build thread about this car. :p

I'm ready to see tweak with a big turbo on 20lbs! My b6t ran really well on 9lbs though too. You can really tell the difference in weight too with the bp over the b6t. I may be the only one who has had the pleasure of having both setups in the same car. And, Omg sooo clean......!

Hate to ruin this thread with stupid questions lol...I don't want u to log in and feel compelled to answer all my stupid questions before you can post cool pix or anything but just kinda curious if welding a piece of 1" or 1.5" angle across the stock radiator support (in front) would help anything? Instead of having to cut the stock metal and stuff, you know I'm all about quick and easy. Well easy anyway..

The only bracing I have is the front support mod. It's plated and gusseted behind where that support bolts I'm on. This area is the most stressed area on the chassis, when it concerns driving TQ.
I also have a harness bar going across my B pillars, but it didn't seem to make the chassis more rigid.

Not a stupid question at all. The main purpose of this stronger support is to tie the sway bar mounting points together securely, while supporting the front main frame horns from twisting. Basically all of the engines torque is being transferred into pushing force through the cars front sway bar. All power related chassis flex starts here. This removable brace was my best attempt at strengthening the weakest link when I made it 3 years ago. My next roadrace setup will have a tubular front end with trailing links and no front sway bar. I'd like to put 250 ft.lbs to the ground with an open diff.
