  • 1st b6t/festiva build (slow)

I will do my best to keep this up to date on my build. More so for myself but for others enjoyment as well. The festiva is a 91 auto with 108k in the bank. The b3 runs good. It could use a new dizzy cap but it works great. One bolt on the head needs to be drilled out and tapped bigger. It works like a charm tho.

Got the car from my grandfather. Will be going b6t with full suspension and full paint job. The plan is to go with a modified turbo setup, bigger injectors, rocket-man chipped ecu, might do side skirts, bumper and front lip. The hope end goal is a 250hp festiva b6t. I plan to take steps to get there. I have the festiva in the driveway. The capri is my winter car.

will post pictures in a bit of both.

Both cars have wheel adapters and 4x100 wheels on them. I will most likely go with toyo r888 tires.

Another member will be makinging the motor mounts and a wiring harness for me. Going to use the xr2 motor tranny and front suspension/brakes. Still need to find a junk aspire to get the rear end from.

Not sure on paint color or rim style. Thinking burnt ornge to match my rock crawler.

I hope to get some racing seats and harness put in. A cage is in the works (still need the bender).

Big plans for the car tho.

The night i finally bought the car from my grandfather. He had this car for as long as i could remember him. I enjoy knowing it has stayed in the family and is getting rebuilt.

Then i went and found some stupid big rims to put on it.

This being my 3rd festiva i finally decided to build one. I knew if i started it i would at some point finish it. So i found a capri xr2 in good running condition and i bought it. i'm committed now!

I cant just make it go faster! I need to make it better. So i did some reading and question asking and pulled the trigger on the DIY Coilover suspension setup. Man am i glad i did. However Going that low means my rims are now way way to big. So as of this point in time i went back to the 12"s.

In an effort to stop all the vibrations i started to change out steering parts. I swapped in a kia rio power steering rack (running it unpowered). All new inner and outer tier rods and such. Come to find out my front coilover height adjustment nut was lose and letting it shake. I still get the 12" 55mph vib tho.

So to fix the newest vib and get the festiva looking good again i bought some new rims and tires. I might have gone crazy on the rims. Once i started to look up the weights of each it really got me thinking. Wel i ended up getting the Enkei RPF1. I also got a set of the Achilles ATR-k tires to go on them. Im hoping the rims are worth the price i paid for them.

While i wait on the new rims to come in i decided to pull the B6T. It has been rocket chipped. The pore turbo didnt like the new PSI and let go on me so a replacement was found. With the motor now out of the car i can pull it apart and go over it with a fine tooth comb.

I hope to get the rims mounted this weekend. I also hope to have the B6T fully apart this weekend. I am going to give it all new gaskets, timing belt, water pump, turbo, paint, Arp bolts and some love. Gotta make sure she is ready for a beating.

The motor wont be ready for a month or so i d guess but man i ready now...

Make sure the shop that mounts your tires has modern equipment that won't damage the rims. I've got a set of RPF1 rims with clamp marks on them because someone mounted the tires with an old style clamp. These rims are ultra thin and you don't want any scarring on them as it could lead to cracking.

They are awesome wheels. Mine are 15x7, but still mega light at 10.5 lbs a wheel.

Slow but steady progress this weekend. I picked up a set of kia rio knuckles and brakes. The axle nut was not coming off no matter what i did. I ended up going to town 3 times (kid at rural king had no clue what he was doing and gave me wrong parts 2x) and getting an Oxy/fuel cutter. One i got the torch i melted the shaft off the nuts. I wanted to stay away from the knuckle as much as i could. Install was simple. I didnt get to adjust toe very much but i was just over 1/16 smaller on the front of the hub the the rear. Will try to adjust a bit better tonight. The new rims made the car feel way better at take off. It turns much easier now. The light weight rims help a ton. Not sure how much effect the rear will have (would guess very little) but i cant wait to try.

The car finally car stop. Once i tried to brake check a friend that was taking a drink from a bottle and he simply asked me why we were slowing down. Now i will be able to send him through the front glass with ease.

I have not washed the car in a bit so please dont mind all the dirty hand prints.

I have bought a set of new brake lines. When i did the swap i had to reuse one festiva line. Also im going to try and swap the calipers out with a 2nd set i have to try and get them to brake the same amount. Right now it pulls one way or the other and at different times. It stops on a dime but sometimes that dime is over here or over there! I hope with a better fresher set of calipers and new good hoses it'll pull evenly.

Im gonna go ahead and do the aspire rear swap as well. I will do another write up on that as well. From what im told its just 2 holes you have to drill out.

My pedal is a bit soft now from the front swap so i think i will grab the aspire booster and MC as well.

Found out the MC to Booster is sucking in air but not really leaking very much. I have ordered an new MC. I also found a miata booster and MC to upgrade with.

I have some new rotors going on the car tonight. I might grab new pads to match as well. I hate running old pads on new rotors. The miata booster and MC upgrade will be picked up this Saturday. Also this saturday i hope to stop by a yard and grab an aspire rear brake swap. I really need to get the aspire rear on so i can install my rims on the rear.

This weekend i did get the front end all straight. I might take it to a shop to have them double check it as this was my 1st string alignment job.

So i finally have 2 rear drums to redrill now. I only had to order 12 different drums to end up with 2 flat style drums. Now i hope to get them drilled and ready to go tomorrow at work. Would be nice to finally have all 4 rims on the car.

Looks like i am picking up my 4th festiva this friday! It will be th car i put all my goodies onto. Mine is good but is not perfect. This new festiva is a bit nicer then mine so i will use it. Plus it gives me a car to build while i still have my daily driver. So in the end it will all work out.

Im paying quite a bit for it tho but its a new festy!!!
