That's what came out of the feed side of the filter. All the good parts stores were closed today so I just grabbed a filter off one of my other cars. Ill just run this filter for a tank or two then get a new one. I took a pressure sprayer and ran two quarts of brake clean through the feed line also. Runs pretty much perfect now. It's so much smoother and has a lot more power now.

Blow out the fuel lines with compressed air. Maybe some debris is stuck inside the lines.

All the crap in the old tank.

I had ordered a new carter fuel pump that was supposed to fit a festiva. But the pump I got was the later design for a aspire. Picture on rockauto shows the correct pump and the part number on the box was correct so I assume they just "updated" the pump design. Couldn't find a aspire pump bracket so I just cut up a festiva one and made it work.

    new tank

So got it all back in and running. This fuel pump is stupid loud. I've run aftermarket high flow pumps before that are nowhere near this loud. Kinda pissed me off but oh well at least its running. Took it out to see if it runs better and it does but its still not quite right. It no longer falls on its face when you floor it but it still isn't that smooth under acceleration. Probably need to replace the fuel filter. I didn't bother since the previous owner had just installed a new one.

Should be fixed by next weekend hopefully. No idea how much of a gain I'll get and don't really care. It's my daily right now so just want it to stay running.

Nice little car. That strainer looks real bad. I'm sure it'll be fixed in no time. Glad to see you got another one

started a topic something something.... DANGER ZONE!

    something something.... DANGER ZONE!

I know I'm not even trying anymore....

Well I'm snowed/iced in so might as well start a thread on the newest addition.

Picked it up a few months ago from a local guy that was the original owner. He took pretty good care of it and most of the parts on it have been replaced before. It had been sitting for a few years though and had a burnt valve. Ran fine other than it vibrated pretty bad at idle. Body is pretty straight only slight surface rust in the usual places. Paint its pretty faded but should come back with a good buff/polish.

The graphics on the sides are painted on with with what looks like spray paint.

And they didn't do that great of a job making sure both sides matched. Id like to eventually get some vinyl to go over them and make them a little more even.

First thing I did was a aspire swap, advanced suspension and some 13" wheels.

Wheels had a pretty aggressive offset so needed good fender roll/pull along with a bunch of negative camber to make them fit. Also the tires I had were too big and the fenders sat on them even with the suspension cranked all the way up.

So I swapped to smaller tires. Could actually drive it now but the rears still rub the fenders on bad bumps and these tires vibrate like crazy at highway speeds.

I've been driving it like that for a while now. Don't have any pictures of it but I scraped all the old tint off, installed a 110mph cluster and front mudflaps. Have the rear ones just haven't gotten around to finding hardware to install them. A few weeks ago it started running worse and running hot. Figured the burnt valve was getting worse and the coolant system was full of the usual stiva sludge.

    Bad valve.

Replaced the head with a ported one, ported lower intake mani, b6d throttle body, replaced the radiator, flushed the system, replaced most of the engine seals, timing belt, water pump and cleaned the engine bay while I had everything out. Got everything running again and its idling great revs up fine but as soon as I take it out on the highway it just falls on its face and has no power. Rechecked everything I had done and found a few minor problems, fixed them. Its still doing it. Slapped a fuel pressure gauge on it and took it for a drive. Fuel pressure is dropping to 20psi when I floor it.

That is what was left of the fuel pump strainer when I pulled it out of the tank yesterday. Tank is full of rust and crap so that's getting replaced too.
Working...
