Had the manifold off to clean it and port match it. Throttle body is off a b6d and was cleaned before I put it on.

I spoke to soon it's still doing it especially under 4k at part throttle.

If the pcv valve was plugged theres probably a lot of junk in the intake manifold. Try some seafoam or other throttle body cleaner in there, especially clean where the butterfly valve is.

New fuel filter finally came in today. While I was putting that in noticed the fresh air tube to the valve cover had come loose from the valve cover. Checked the pcv valve and that was plugged up. Would let air through in either direction. Swapped for one off another motor and took it for a test drive. Drove better but still wasn't quite right. Based off a few posts on here I figured I should check for leaks in the intake tube. Hooked up the evap machine to the manifold and pumped it full of smoke. Found a few small leaks at the intake tube to throttle body connection. Just loosened up the tube and shoved it on tighter then tightened down on the clamp a little more. Couldn't find any more leaks but that seems to have helped a lot. Pulls pretty strong from 3500 to redline now.

Kinda hard to see but the blurry white spot at the bottom edge of the tube is the smoke coming out.

This car looks so sick. We need to find round 175 50 13 tires.
Hmmm ill see what I can come up with. Want to stick a water temp gauge up there also. I'm sure we could find some but importing them would probably be a pita.
Edit: Just did a quick search on yahoo japan auctions. Only brand they had in that size was nankang :banghead:

    Love how low it is.
That's as high as it'll go too. I could probably grind the pinch welds off if I cranked it all the way down on narrower wheels.

Then heat the dash and gauge base a little with a heat gun. Doesnt need to be much. If you have the adhesion promotor for the tape then use it. Then press really hard.

Yeah it was late so I just wiped off the dash real quick and slapped it on. Ill give that a try when I get a chance.

Most often they pop up as exim mesh. The company also went by exip at some point I think. They were made in the 80s and have "made in west germany" stamped on them. Kinda rare but not too bad. Another member picked up a set a month or so back.

    Installed clear turn signals

Installed a oil pressure gauge. Need to find something to stick it to the dash though. Tried double sided trim tape but it held for maybe 5 seconds.

So friday I swapped the aspire roller cam and rockers for a fms performance cam and hydro rockers. So far not impressed but I think I have a few issues. First the lifters are really noisy. Swapping the hla from the rockers that came with cam to the ones that were in the roller rockers helped a little but its still tapping. Not sure if its because of the cam or the fully synthetic oil (GM 5w30 dexos I get it really cheap at work). Second it doesn't seem to have as much power. When accelerating its not smooth almost feels like its hesitating. Should I have advanced the timing some? I just set it to factory spec. All the ignition components are pretty new and I wasn't having this problem before. Going to try a new fuel filter this week and see if that helps.

Made some brackets for the tps. Much better than the zip tie I was using before lol.

Also washed it and installed the rear mudflaps.

I'm pretty sure it rusted up from sitting for so long. The oil change sticker in the window was from 2010 iirc.

Thanks man. The loud pump was a side effect of the clogged filter. Can barely hear it now that I swapped filters and put all the interior back in. I need to harass you again sometime. Have some stupid questions about hpde and track prep.

Awesome car Joe! I'm glad you got everything sorted out. I'd paint the outside of that tank with black rubberised spray they sell at home Depot for roof repairs and stuff. It looks like the stuff they used at the factory. That will help quiet your fuel pump. Since your tank has no coating on it, is like an amplifier.

It sucks but I also had to give up on the ethanol free gas. It's only available around my house at the marine gas stations.

I've heard in the past though that most of the time a tank has that much stuff in it, it's from filling up at the same time they are filling the tanks. All the stuff in that tanks gets mixed from the 4" hose that they use to fill the tanks and the pump just pumps everything into the tank. I don't know how accurate this is but there seems to be some logic behind it.

Non ethanol only comes in 89 octane around here and only 1 gas station has it 30 minutes out of my way. I'll stick with the ethanol stuff for now. I'd like to run e85 in my saab but nearest station with it is 2 hours from here.

Never use ethanol fuel again. If you let it sit, it absorbs water and if it separates, the bottom of your gas tank will get eaten again over time. I always fill up with non ethanol fuel. Cheap insurance. Everthing runs smooooooth.
