  • B6 festiva gokart

I'm building a go kart powered by a B6 engine and aspire 5 speed trans. I got the engine from a friend that did a b8 swap in his festiva.
The front end is from a 99 Saturn sl1. The rear is the front from a festiva
I started building the frame for a 13hp harbor freight engine when I got in half done it weighted almost 200 pounds. I figured that the 13hp wouldn't push it fast enough.
    the tubing is mostly 1 ¼ and 1 ½ sch 40 pipe.
Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

This is the first go kart be for I decided to use a festiva engine.

    started on the bigger one.

the donor car at the junk yard.

    working on the back end.

    fitting the engine up.

I tried to eliminate all the unneeded wires in the harness.

The pile on the left is what I don’t need. That took a while.

This is pretty cool. How does that lift work that the festiva is on?
Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

It almost looks like it has to be manually adjusted. I frequent this yard and I see them moving cars with front-loaders with long forks. Maybe they use those to place the car on the lift once they have it adjusted to the height they want. I suppose the arms act like really tall jack stands. Just my best guess.

In the first pic with the engine, it is facing the wrong way, but it looks like it was corrected in the pic underneath it.

Looks to me like both pics are correct. The red plug in the first pic is where the disty would go, and in both pics the trans is where it would be.

Woefully underpowered tho, needs a BP.....

We were discussing this project the other day and he did mention the possibility of mounting a supercharged 2.2 ecotec... But that may be way down the road. I believe he said it would put out about 200hp.

What is your wheelbase? Too short a wheelbase will make this car a handful, with too much power. Just kidding about the BP.

What do you estimate the total weight to be when it's all built? At 600 lbs for instance, it would have three times the power/weight ratio with any motor than a stock 1800-lb Festiva. So your 83 HP is effectively 249 HP! :-)

Yeah I figured that was sarcasm I don't know for sure about the weight or wheelbase, I'll let him chime in, but I believe the weight should be well under 1000lbs. Maybe like 700-800? Dont quote me on that :p
