    ^That's some good info. When I vented my block, I had no choice. The engine had such bad blow by that it filled my little 750ml can in a matter of seconds on boost. I made my own separator to use the block vent and the car made it across country and back without burning any oil. That block vent is a great asset to these engines. It baffles my mind that more Miata guys don't utilize it.

          Yeah .... I don't really understand my issue with certainty. My old B6T with the VJ11/14 did not have the blow by problem. Hiroki does not have it. But my Miata block in the Festiva does. Even the one I had rebuilt professionally with fancy no-gap rings. I suppose the 9.4:1 instead of 7.8:1 compression plays a role.
          And when I ran rubber to ice even the Miata block did not have blow by, but it does on studded tires. Of course, on rubber you are at full throttle for only the briefest of times, and on studs it is full throttle for 70%. So I guess those things somewhat explain it. But the Miata guys claim to only have blow by under stupid high boost, 20 to 35 psi, and none to speak of below 18 psi.

            I have similar issues ! My yellow car had no blow by in rubber and in studs it was horrendous did a leak down test and the engines ok. Studs have much more engine load though. My turbo miata has no blow by. Both are miata blocks

              I think the miata valve cover does a better job of separation of air and oil than the early cover. I know that OE rings are way better than anything aftermarket. That's my only contribution to the mystery. My bad blow by b6t had at least one cracked piston when I got it, it had many more when I took it out, lol.

                Do you know if you can use the miata valve cover with that fancy jdm intake manifold ?

                  Maybe. You could make a plenum spacer to lift it up high enough, but then you'd need a gtx hood for sure.
                  Just save yourself the trouble though and run the dang crank vent to the can. I only run 1 of the cam cover vents on all 3 of the cars I've built separators for and it works great. Tweak can go 7000miles on an oil change without using any oil or making the oil dirty at all. That car also uses a big Jeep filter though and it's got a 16 row thermostatically controlled cooler. I've never owned a turbo car that wasn't hard on oil until the last engine I put in that car.

                    Hey Charlie, the Jeep filter you mention, is it a direct fit for the B6T, or are there modifications needed to run one? Also is there a write up on here detailing your oil separator? I won't run without one.

                    • We found out by accident that it does work on a b3, so that means it'll work on a b6t without the oil heat exchanger for sure, and maybe with the oil heat exchanger. The jeep filter is NAPA Gold #1626.
                      I didn't do a write up, because making one is pretty fabrication heavy, but you can use a Mann Provent and accomplish the same thing.

                            You sure can not use the Miata valve cover with the North American B6T intake manifold, it is too tall by a fair amount. But I have never seen the JDM intake.
                            Interesting point Charlie that the Miata cover does a better job of oil separation than the B6T cover. I even resorted to filling the passage way for the oil blow by return in the B6T valve cover with a copper pot scrubber, and it made very little difference. I had seen it suggested on Miata forums to use a plastic pot scrubber, but I thought why take the risk of melting when you can use copper. Too bad it was not much help.
