I was able to get the head back on, the cams put on and the engine pulled out of the Capri this weekend. I pulled the trans off and got the crank pulley off. I'm going to hopefully get all the new seals and gaskets on this week in preparation for the weekend, when I hope to get the mounts done.

I was also able to paint the engine bay, too!

I love that color. Are you going to paint the whole car that color?

I do really like this color as well, but I wont be painting the car this color. At least not anytime soon. Maybe one day, though!

Well things are moving along. I bought two mounts from a member and they seemed to work well. I had to fab up the front trans mount with my brother-in-law. We used a couple pieces of 2x3 angle steel and a steel plate and the mount is pretty solid.

I had to eliminate the intercooler. There just isn't enough space to use one. With stock boost levels I don't expect a ton of issues. If anyone has ideas on how to run an intercooler efficiently, let me know! All I have is the stock Capri cooler. I would prefer to use it and not buy another.

The engine is in and mounted up. Shift linkage is complete and I only had to shorten one side. The stationary attach point slipped right on. Its going to be nice finally having a 5 speed! Under dash wiring is done, just need to run the engine harness and splice the 3 wires. I will also need to connect a few more hoses and fab up some kind of exhaust. The stock Capri down-pipe would not work so I am using the pipe from my B8. All I had to do is elongate the holes a smidgen. Works like a charm. I checked and made sure the diameter is the same and it is. 1 5/8 inches. Flange gasket works too!

Finding a place for the radiator was a huge pain. I plan on doing the lower core support mod relatively soon, so that will remedy the ridiculous placement I have to use now! Hopefully the car will be done by Tuesday night! Fingers crossed!

          That was a long weekend.

The car is running! Still has a few bugs to work out, but its driveable!

I need to fix the coolant temp sender, as the wire broke and there is a small coolant leak by the heater core. Then the car needs to be put back together.

I'm not sure what I'm more excited about: having a 5th gear or the turbo....who am I kidding, its the turbo! I am excited about 5th gear though.

Well the car is up and running. I've been driving it for several days to make sure there aren't any bugs. Seems to drive well. My only complaint is I don't really feel much boost below 4k rpm. I can hear the turbo spooling but the power doesn't really come on until 4k. Engine almost seems lazy. I never thought a B6T would have so much lag with such a small turbo. I also don't have an intercooler so there should be even less lag. The car is still pretty quick though, especially in second and third gear. I'm pretty pleased! I'm getting a boost gauge from a member so hopefully when I get that installed it will give me a better idea of whats going on. I cant seem to find any vacuum leaks though.

I do have a few small exhaust leaks where I threw a flex pipe my "modified" b6 downpipe. The flex pipe is held on by a couple exhaust clamps. I'll need to find a more permanent fix for those. I removed the festiva muffler and that may have helped a bit, but if it did, it wasn't much.

My wife loves my car - she did before, but she does even more now. And it seems like Adalyn (my baby) does as well. Seems like she falls asleep whenever we drive it somewhere, a very good thing!

Double check your cam timing, that will directly affect how the turbo performs.

When we put the belt on, all the pulleys were at TDC. We made sure the Intake and Exhaust pulleys were set with the correct "I" and "E". The timing isn't advanced at all. Would that help?

I just checked the online manual and apparently the timing needs to be 12 degrees +/- 2 degrees BTDC. That would probably be my issue. I installed it at TDC. Dang. I really don't want to have to redo this timing belt.

You don't have to touch the timing belt, they're referring to the ignition timing. So get your light out and go to town.

Sounds like your ignition timing is retarded. They like 14 btdc. You can't trust the marks on the balancer, because the outer ring tends to spin a bit. I set mine with all the covers off so I can see the notch in the lower timing pulley. If your engine is big nosed, you may have to set it with the lower accessory pulley removed. You have to check and set it really quick though, because you'll have no water pump or alternator.
Ignition timing makes a BIG difference on the b6t.
Even when they are running perfect, the b6t feels slow in a Festiva. It actually feels slower than a healthy b3, but don't be fooled. It's just silky smooth. A properly tuned b6t festiva is on par with big bore sports cars.

Well I attempted to adjust the timing the other day and now I believe I hear pinging in higher RPM. Not sure what detonation sounds like but I do hear something that isn't there under normal driving conditions.

This is probably a stupid question that I should know, but on my lower timing cover there is a 10 in the middle, which I can only assume is 10 degrees BTDC, and there is a T on the bottom (towards the front of the car). Is that T for TDC? If so, then 14 degrees would be 2 notches above the 10 correct?
