  • 2 ice racing video "kills"

Ok boys and girls, here's 2 long awaited ice racing video from inside my battle weary little mule. I just treated myself to a new computer this year and it's quite a bit faster than the old one, which now makes downloading vids to you-tube a little more convienient all the way around.

The red dsm you'll see initially, is a "stud class car" not competing in our class, he's only there for the purposes of a local newspaper reporter's artical and photography.
What you'll be seeing in the first video is me starting on the grid in position # 3 getting a terrible launch, this track length is a little over .8 tenths of a mile by the way.
I'm behind a olds achieva (which the guy actually cut the entire trunk off of!?) on pole or position #1. There's a nissan sentra (1.6) in the #2 position with a mazda 323 (1.6 prepared by me) behind him in position #4. You'll see a neon (2.0) as well and finally at the end you see another neon I actually end up lapping! The flag man is off screen to the right, but you'll see him as I come down the straight.
I pulled off a hat trick on saturday with a 2nd place for the 4th race, I'll try and post that later so you can see how I threw first place away lol.
I am now firmly seated in first place in my class after 2 days of racing!
    enjoy!

I'm starting on the grid in position #3 and I get a bad launch so enjoy it lol.The red #13 dsm is a stud car in this heat only for demonstration purposes for...

In this one you'll see where I get hit and pushed into a snow bank, (at the 2:05 mark) only to somehow emerge from it, but then I proceed to drive like a rabid squirrel for one entire lap lol. Check out my buddy whose working corner three as he steps out from behind his car (at the 2:35 mark) and gives me the international sign for: WTF JUST HAPPENED BACK THERE!? lol
I finally pull myself back together and make that beautiful KKK turbo of mine eat it's way down the straightaway and into a giant drift that ultimately results in me snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! (I swear I could actually hear Crystal Method's "Salty" playing in my head while I was doing that long drift!)
It's destined to be one of my favorite race memories of all times, and it's just that much sweeter that I caught it all on the video recorder too!
It absolutely freaks my wife out to watch the video...Enjoy!

In the vid's I'm using my Nokkian Hakkapelita RSI's, but I prefer Bridgestone Blizzaks particularly the WS-50's (not made anymore) Or the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70.
I cannot begin to tell you how much of a difference these tires make on snow and ice.
I will tell you however "all season radials" is one of the biggest crimes perpetrated on society.

The RSi is disco'd as well. Replaced with the Hak-R.
Which sucks, because the Hakka R is made in their new Russian plant for most sizes, and the stuff out of that plant is not nearly as good. My first set of R's (The Nissan) came from the Finnish plant and they were great, but the second set I got (the Vibe) was russian and they're super squirmy (even for a winter tire) and the fronts were half worn after my first winter on 'em.
I wish they still made the old hakka Q, those were as grippy as they were invincible (a guy I know got 6 winters out of a set on his VR6 Jetta)
I have Hak-5s on the festy this winter and they're awesome though.
And yeah, there's a reason that there's no such thing as an all-season tire outside of north america.

I really want to do some ice racing myself. Closest thing we have here is Winter AutoX, and by the end of the day the track gets torn up so we're pretty much racing on cold gravel by the end of the day.

i perfer the ws50's to!!!!!! thats all i use. i stopped racing a festiva and started racing a chevette its a rubber to ice spec class just of chevettes.

Hey, I saw about a 10 minute in car chevette spec class video a guy made from Minden, Ont. He came from way behind in it. I want to say he ended up passing about 14 cars and made it all the way to 1st place! Very cool footage, I swear I was struggling with the guy the whole way lol, I was exhausted after watching it ha,ha. Try and search it out on utube. You may know the guy, heck, you may BE the guy!
