They ALWAYS blow up! There is currently one in a clean S14 here that's only running right now because they JUST rebuilt it! Everyone else is currently down.
      Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
      1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)

Before tire technology finally caught up, on-road racers used to slide their cars on purpose to slow down for a turn keeping their engines in the powerband. Now kids try to emulate this same practice on public city roads and mountains pegging rev limiters and blowing up engines or crashing. They now have drift competitions like figure skating where style points are given out.

It's like freestyle motorcross, some of those guys never placed in other races so now they jump higher and let go of their bikes in mid air etc. All of it is fun to watch dont get me wrong, but like nascar it's just as fun to watch when things go wrong LOL

well blkfordsedan, since you have informed me with facts a trillion times on other threads, here ya go:

2.0L DOHC turbo Nissan engine. (sr20det) it was put into the pulsar GTI-R and 180sx in japan, this engine did not come in any cars in north america (correct me if im wrong) came in at least 2 versions if im correct red top and black top. Red top came with a t25 turbo and black top came with a t28 and variable cam timing?

I think drifting is the most coolest and difficult performance driving there is. to take a car to the point of losing control but being able to control the power, braking, steering, and sliding is incredible. I havent ever got to drift a japanesse car or little car for that matter but I used to pull off some insane drifts in my brothers old nova.

I'd take an AE86 over a Nissan any day, just because the form of drifting is so mechanical in that car compared to others, like our Festivas are. It's no surprise to me that that Corolla got it's tail pipe handed to it. If they built it for drift, straight-line racing is pointless! However, I guarantee that the Corolla driver built his engine before he actually knew how to drift, so he's doing himself a disservice by overmodifying before he learns the stock feel of the car sideways.

drifting is easy IMHO, ive done a couple events and if my car was setup properly i would have done alot better, drove someone elses full fleged drift car and it was super easy,

having said this, ive been racing for 13 years in road racing, ice racing, time attack, rally cross, autocross, etc etc...

Well, I started driving in the fall and I found it easy to do a burnout in the crappy Lumina drivers ed car, teacher=unhappy, and drifting in the snow is easy, mom=unhappy, so I should drift a festiva, cops=unhappy,=no drivers license.

I see, so it's like the Japanese version of what rednecks have been doing for 60+ years with a carload of flamable liquid in glass jars.

Actually, I've seen the videos of that dude in the WRX & Fiesta. What I don't understand is all the Alpha-numeric code for the engines & body styles!

The alpha numeric code is shorthand for telling what chassis a car is. AE86 is the mid 80's corolla gys which is rear wheel drive as opposed to the other corolla models of the same year aka the ae85. Its quicker for those familar. Like talking about the old dodge "k" cars.

The people who grew up in Buffalo and other various locations usually have a head start on this sort of thing but it's practice practice like anything else. I'd rather practice on leaves and ice because tires aren't free.

Ford cars are worse than alpha numeric. Panther, Fox, Bear...is Carlisle a furry convention now? LOL
