Better check the updated NHRA rules, they have all kinds of rules about MIN wheel base. Some rules float around 90" ( when you get below the magic 9.99 ET) . A stock festiva is at 90.2" and when you have to go to a taller rear tire you end up moving the Diff forward to clear the tires. So be carefull or you mail fail tech before you get a single run.

Myself I wouldnt want to run a 9 sec 90" wheel base car. Lose traction on one side for a fraction of a second and with a short polar moment of inertia you will be facing the burn out box.

All very true and good points.
Its going to be a handful for sure. Im sure the clutchless liberty 5 speed is going to make this thing a handfull to drive.
I know this isnt the best car to make into a race car, but weve done so many mustangs its just time to do something different.
If it proves to be to much for this little car, well pull the motor & trans out and put it in something different.

At least i can say i finialy got to build it!!

Put it on a full tube chassis and lengthen the wheelbase between the firewall and front wheels, LOL. The extra length would come in handy for engine packaging anyway! I think the original Beetles (VW...not John, Paul, George, Stuart & Tommy) were only 94" to 95". On the opposite hand, with a 90" w.b. and plenty of traction, it may be hard to keep the front wheels on the ground long enough to warrant even having a steering wheel.

Why not, that driving technique seems to work for my wife.....

Reminds me of watching some wicked VW Bugs race at Firebird Raceway. Seemed like the front wheels only touched the ground momentarily before each shift through the first 1/8 mile.

Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

Update..the car is now buried in the snow next to the barn.
But the good news is I've finished my other projects that I needed to get done, so now I can pull a customers 93 mustang gt & my Festiva into the garage. I picked up a 8.8 rear end for my project. Hitting a swap meet in 2 weeks in Detroit to see whats out there..I'm hoping to use only a few new parts on the car..
