the smaller tires dont help much. i have ran 215/50/13, 205/60/13, 185/60/14, 195/60/14(currently running), 195/55/15, 195/60/15, 205/50/15, 215/40/16, and 205/45/16. all get about the same traction and trap 111mph-114mph at between a 12.6-13.2 et if i remember ill throw on the 215/50/13's and try launching in 2nd.I know its a piece of crap but im still faster...and its 100% legal!!!!!

Get some slicks and launch at 5k+ in 1st. You might go 11s...or break more trannies. Slicks aren't as rough on everything as radials or street tires which are both prone to wheel hop-Greg

Any turbo car will experience some lag time if a completely off-throttle shift occurs... since he doesn't want to keep swapping out grenaded transmissions he's running a street tire; I imagine he's granny shifting it to avoid blowing the tires off. The way to beat that downtime is powershiftingOriginally posted by drddan View PostAwesome run! You should try launching in 2nd, as stated above. You will gain some time, and traction, by not having that extra shift, from 1-2, which I think is the worst shift on the Festy's.
Watching a lot of vids on youtube, it always seems the festy's almost fall on their face during that 1-2 shift. Have you tried launching from 2nd?
I would imagine you have, but thought i'd ask, anyway.
If he wanted to do some slicks he should run a slick that's (IMO) 1" taller than the street tire diameter he has currently. A taller tire will ease drivetrain damage, and a slightly taller sidewall will minimize some of the shock from what needs to be done on 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4: WOT power shifts!Originally posted by Christ View PostDude.. That's nuts. Can you get a smaller profile tire with equal traction ability? That will change the final gearing and might make it a bit easier to launch in 2nd if you wanted to, although it won't be much... other than that, a larger profile will give you longer final, but opens the 1-2 gap further. However, you might have an easier time keeping traction while putting down more power with a larger rolling circumference, because more initial torque will be absorbed by the rolling stock, and there's a slightly larger contact patch on a larger circumference.
LOL he might require an additional "TJs New Differential Fund" as wellOriginally posted by gauge_half_inch View PostI'll donate $10 to the TJ slicks fund... Anyone else?

... so get some predictable tractionOriginally posted by fastivaB6TG25MR View Posti power shift 3-4 and 4-5. i time my rev hard cut and i get butter smooth transitions between gears. i would power shift 1-2 and 2-3 but the revvs raise way too fast and are unpredictable with traction issues.
