So i have a 5 speed festiva... i was just wondering if this thing has a rev limiter and what exactly are the shift pionts in her...

I didnt want to push the little girl to the point of blow'n up, so i was wondering if anyone else had... I usually shift out of my gears if i'm getting on her at:

    1st - 21
    2nd- 40
    3rd- 65... and so on.

    I'd say 3rd at 65 is a little high. I'd go 20, 35, 55 at least thats what I did.

I've run 3rd to 65 when accelerating as I'm passing someone. For normal everyday driving I shift all over the place, cuz I don't have a shift light.

              ^^ lol

first of all, yes there is a rev limiter. its at 6.5k IIRC, somewhere around there. if you rev it up in neutral it'll bounce off the rev limiter (rev limiting is achieved by fuel cutoff).

I run mine to 20-ish in 1st, 40-45 in 2nd, 65-70 in 3rd, who knows what in 4th. By those points your not at red line but you are at the end of your peak power band. If you "power shift" (don't let up on the gas between gears) it keeps revving up between gears, even doing 45 in 2nd, so you know your not at the rev limiter.

Of course this kind of driving won't help your car last longer, but your not going to blow anything up (right away at least ) either!

Getting my best mileage by shifting at 3000 rpm, and 5th at around 2200.

The Saturn ION has a shift light. The wife and I treat it with disdain. How dare a GM product tell us how to drive.

I really like 3rd in this little pup, it just seems to have alot of power in that gear...

oh oh, one more thing... how poochy are the auto's?

In a drag scenerio is there a difference in the Festiva's that have 4 speeds rather then 5... or do they just have an extra gear?
