Huge difference for me is The fully opening back hatch on a festiva. I put a lazy boy in it and then closed the hatch. The metro only opens up on the top half. Then there are the short over hangs on the bumpers. A festiva will out 4-wheel a metro any day. Looks is a given in my book too and course there is the 0 - 60 time. about 10ish vs 13ish? No contest in my opinion.

Could have been a Chevy Sprint the predecessor of the Metro. I think that they were called "Sprint Metro" for a while. Did it look like this?

Interesting fact: The Subaru Justy was the first US market car to use a CVT and the last to use a carburetter.

I found my way here because I'm a Miata owner, and I know that you can swap the BP engine into a Festiva. I was thinking it would be fun to own a BP powered hatch. (and since a GTX isn't jumping into my lap...)

I've owned a 1990 Swift GT and a 1988 Chevy Sprint Turbo - and let me tell you, no non-swapped Festiva holds a candle to these cars (performance wise). The top engine swap for the Swifts is to put the DOHC 1.3 head on a samurai/sidekick 1.6 block. There's the convertibles, and the Metro XFI getting 53/58 mpg. So I'm going to give the edge to Suzuki on this battle. That said - Festivas are very cool cars and the bodykits on Festiva Motorsports are awesome. I will be doing the 1.8 big block swap into a Festiva sooner or later...

                      Welcome Muffin Man!

I agree with everything you've said regarding Metros. I'd love to get my greasy little hands on a turbo model. However, I think that Festivas win out in overall longevity.

I think that's the first time I've heard a BP described as a big block!

Glad to clear that up. The Sprints were actually lighter than the Festiva IIRC. Not to mention they were available with a turbocharged 3 cylinder.

Comparing the sport version of the suzuki to the base festiva is like comparing apples to oranges. Comparing the base festiva to the base suzuki is more accurate. The suzuki doesn't even come close. The stock festiva will run 113 mph! 52 mpg is the best I've heard from a festiva so the festiva is still the champ in my book. I'd rather have tolerable performance and 45 mpg than scary performance and 55 mpg. And hey, welcome to the board!
