How slow is the Festiva?

Compared to other cars, others all seem to have a beefier engine. I know the Sprint NT is slower, but it also has one less cylinder. It seems like every small car out there is faster than the Festiva.

So assuming the cars are stock, what sort of 'rank' would you put the festiva in compared to other cars? Only cars that you actually see on the road and not things like that Peel P50 or micro cars.

Faster than a Metro, and I know from experience a manual Festiva is quicker than an automatic first gen Escort.

I don't really agree at all. Festys (or at least the 4 I have had) seem to be as quick, or quicker than most small cars I have had.

Must be something wrong with your car,or you're not driving it right.
You have a small engine but its not pulling any weight.

A stock Festiva isn't fast by any stetch of the imagination, but there have been lots of cars that have been much slower. I know it's quite a bit quicker than than all of the Chevettes I've had.

There are lots of cars that are slower than the Festiva's 10.2 second 0-60 time. Especially mid 70's - mid 80's vehicles when stricter polution controls were imposed, and the technology didn't exist(or it was too expensive) to get high output along with acceptable emissions. So engines were plugged up with polution control equipment that robbed power. I believe the late 70's Corvettes with 350s only put out like 170hp. According to this site, the 75 Corvette with a 350 had a 0-60 time of 9.6 seconds. The Festiva isn't far behind. The Festiva is also faster than a lot of Mustangs, even some of the ones with V-8s.

Check out the Chevette Rally in there. 0-60 time is 19.7, and the 1/4 mile is 20.6. :lol: That's hilarious!

Start looking through the list and you'll find lots of cars that are slower than the Festiva. And most burn a LOT more gas(like the Hummer).

How slow is a Festiva? How bright is the sun?

Not a fast car, but not pokey, either. I only ever drove mine with the stock engine the one time, and it pretty much only had 3 cylinders at the time, but it was still kind of fun in a go-kart kind of way.

A festiva out runs, in my experience, a trooper, a beetle, an isuzu pick up, an s-10 blazer with the 2.8. etc etc etc. a quick stock festiva in good shape will run 0-60 in under 10 seconds.

Yeah, that's more like it.. those are the experiences I have had. Not fast, but NOT pokey, unless in disrepair and not running right. BUT, I have experienced quite a few Festys with bad compression and generally poor running that run horribly, but still ran. The owners thought they just had a butt-slow little car, and didn't really care, when in truth they had bulletproof little cars that wouldn't die.. lol..


My 89 automatic surprises me, I thought it would be a LOT more doggy than it is, of course, it only has 54,000 miles and runs well...

Mine actaully doesn't feel too bad for what it is.....even with it running with that stupid jump and all the crap its doing.....I raced a Metro from a light about 30 minutes ago coming to work......killed it, ha

Speed doesn't matter most of the time anyway. The festiva is as fast as any other car choked up in traffic. A stock festiva will do 100 mph to the next traffic jam.

i think that the festiva feels faster than it really is. it feels like it pulls like a race car, but actually goes 0-60 in 10 secs. i've also noticed that the carbed ones have less "go" (what else do you call it?) off the line, while having more when you drive 65 down the highway. the FI ones (at least the one we've got) has a lot of power barely into the pedal, but stops going faster about halfway down. maybe its just this one, who knows?

I've never been in a real race car, but I'm pretty sure the Festiva definitely doesn't pull like one! :lol:

As far as the throttle response that you describe, that's the way all the stock EFI ones work.

Some of the carbed ones are quicker than the efi ones. They get worse gas mileage though. Some are slower and get up the 49 mpg.

I had a '76 Chevette with the smaller (1400 cc) engine and a 4 speed. With two people on board, I did 0 to 60 in 19.5 seconds and it took a quarter mile to do it in!

Once I got the best of an early nineties Civic LX in Muttstiva, my carbed 5 speed '89 with no back seat and the Aspire suspension and brakes. I say this because it was pretty much an all out acceleration fest between the two of us and he was really trying to beat me. No other traffic to get in the way, either.

I think I was one or two car lengths ahead of him when we hit fifty or so mph. At that point I had to turn off to get to work.

I compared the figures for the Festiva and the Mazda 323 and they are practically the same 10.2 0-60 for the Festiva, 10.0 for the Mazda. 1/4 mile time is listed as 17.8 for the Festiva and 17.6 for the Mazda. No wonder the B6 feels so good in the Festiva... it's hauling around 400 less pounds. Has anyone got the numbers for a B6 Festiva?
