  • Bought Crankshaft front oil seal- WRONG SIZE!

Ordered from Rockauto last week a crankshaft front oil seal GATES Part #KS14477 {Timing Component Seal 1 7/16" x 2" x 9/32"} ie. notation {I.D. x O.D. x thickness} Thought this was the right seal so bought it.

This is the seal that when you take the timing belt sprocket off the crankshaft it is right there. Last night I pried the old one off and went to put my new one in and obviously it is was the wrong size... so i got on rockauto.com and made sure i purchased the right seal... so just to see... i went to the CAMSHAFT seal drop down box and the GATES Part # KS11612 {Timing Component Seal 1 3/16" x 1 3/4" x 9/32"} is the correct dimensions for this seal.

So i emailed Rockauto last night got an email this morning and fortunately they will refund my money as soon as they receive it back at the warehouse... and so i just ordered a camshaft seal as those dimensions match the seal that i pulled out of the car. HMMM weird, but whatever.
They said that nothing seemed to be wrong on their end...

Just curious if any others had issues with this seal for the B3?
Does anyone happen to have their B3 sprocket off their car to measure this seal O.D. and I.D.?

Take the old one into NAPA to match it up - they will have it.

I had problems getting the right seal for my '94 B6 before I installed it. I can't remember if it was the crank or cam seal, but I'm pretty sure it was one or the other. I had gotten one for a '93 323, but then somehow the '94 323 engine had a different size. I'm still not sure that was the deal, though.

I've never seen any other clue that the B6 changed in any way from '93 to '94.

            Weird indeed!

I bought a headset for mine, and the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals were different, although they are truly the same.....

This article is about Miata crankshafts, but it is the same for Festivas. Read the Addendum - August 2001. "A SUMMARY OF THREE DIFFERENT CRANKSHAFTS" about 3/4 of the way down the page. This pretty much explains the different crankshafts.
                You gonna race that thing?

So I am still confused. I have a 90 L Plus and I want to make sure I have the timing belt side Cam and Crank seals. So do I need 2 ks11612 OR 1 ks11612 and a ks14477 OR do I need a ks11612 and something else all together for the crank seal? I looked at rockauto, but confused myself even more.
