I was asked to remove it because some people on this forum find guns offensive. I would love to keep it, and I feel honored that someone would notice. I had a picture of my 240 handy, so that is why that is there now. I will have to come up with/find a new avatar eventually.

In that case, I voted yes. Guns are legal in the states.
But then again, no one ever accuses me of being very PC, if I like something and someone gets offended, I tend to flaunt it, it may not be the most desirable trait of mine......

Well those people need to read the 2nd amendment of the Bill of Rights which protects our rights to keep and bare arms. You were just merely exercising your God given rights and no person or court in the US shall infringe upon these rights.

Some people see guns as bad as soft porn and they think that if there kid comes on this forum and see a gun, that they will go get a gun and shoot up their school. I don't frequent boards that allow soft porn in the avatars. I guess to keep this sight family friendly, no soft porn or guns are allowed in avatars. But if I am not allowed to have a picture of a guy holding a gun in my avatar, we should move all those video clips and pictures of guns to the arena, just to keep things fair. Especially those pics and videos involving mud flaps.

i am sure the people who find guns offensive, do some things that other people may find offensive.
personally, i find bad breath offensive, but i don't tell them their breath stinks, i just avoid close contact with them.bad breath might be their thing,so more power to them.

Exactly, that is why I am a little confused. Those topics are fine, but my avatar is a problem? I was asked to remove it, or I could leave. I was not going to say anything about it, but it got brought up by somebody other than me, so....

who are these said folks who don't like guns?

I will know whose festiva to "borrow" b/c i don't have to worry about them shooting at me

I mean really, do you think a pic from a movie is going to affect how your kids think? Folks like that are conveying the wrong message: guns are bad. Guns are not bad, more often then not they are good, they just get into the hands of bad people sometimes. Just like cars, money, uranium 235, marijuana, and almost everything else. It can be used for good or bad.

Remember: gun's don't kill people, they just make it a whole lot easier.

There's nothing wrong with guns. Now if an avatar showed irresponsible use of guns or other weapons, questioning the depiction would be fair enough.

Lest we forget, DJ owned and carried guns.

It's the hypocritical Hollywood actors who make their big money playing violent idiots using guns that I don't like: Stallone, Arnold, etc. They make violence filled action films and then yap their silly traps to the press about how we need more gun control and so forth.

"Guns and violence" (notice I didn't use the perjorative phrase "gun violence") is one of my areas of study. Criminologists James Wright, Gary Kleck, Gary Mauser, David Kopel, Don Kates, Clayton Cramer, et al. have written extensively on this subject. Kleck in particular is THE researcher in this area. Here are some websites:

Gary Kleck, IMO the leading researcher:

Gary Mauser in Canada, great website:

Joyce Lee Malcolm, author of historical works on English violence and the roots of our Bill of Rights:

David Kopel, author of "The Samurai, the Mountie and the Cowboy," a book conparing gun laws and effects around the world:

Don Kates has coauthored books with Dr. Kleck:

Don B. Kates (1941-2016) was a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute. He received his J.D. from Yale University Law School and taught constitutional law and lectured on criminology at Stanford University, Oxford University, Saint Louis University School of Law, and the University of Melbourne. He had previously worked for the late civil rights lawyer William Kunstler (Kunstler & Kinoy) a

James D. Wright, pioneering researcher on guns and violence (with Peter Rossi and Kathleen Daly) is now at the University of Central Florida. Note his latest book is on NASCAR!:

And yes, I've read the "pro-control" side as well. Franklin Zimring, Philip Cook, Saul Cornell, the "Violence Policy Center" and so forth. I encourage others to do the same.

READ EVERYONE. The best thing to do is to start with Kleck's "Targeting Guns: Firearms and their Control." BIG bibliography. Easily accessable prose. Great guy--I've talked with him on the phone before.

The press rarely covers the criminology of guns and violence, since it requires in depth study and longer attention spans than the MTV generation has. Thus, sound bites from TV wankers and washed up Hollywood stars.

If ya'll want more, just ask!

Another important read is David Courtwright's "Violent Land." This book compares the violence in the "old west" with today's inner cities. Note that Courtwright is not a "gun person" and actually supports some gun controls, but his book is so good that it is still MUST READING:

I get SO SICK of all the "wild west shootout" claims made by anti-CCW folks about "blood running in the streets, blah blah blah.

So here are some of MY articles from the OSU Lantern:

Finally, Oleg Volk's website describes the right of self-defense in a way more people might be able to understand:

                        That's all for now.

I dont like the wording of the poll

                            1. yes bring it back
                            2. no its his choice

If I vote for #1 is sounds like he is being forced to use the avatar since #2 says "no its his choice". I liked the avatar but I want it to be his choice. I vote #1 and #2.
