  • Just got beat - need more power!

I was sitting at a light, 2 lanes in my direction that neck down to 1. A black car pulled next to me and I never even gave it a look. I was planning on jumping hard anyways because of a civic behind me, have to educate them about the festiva's. Well the black car pulled harder and cut me off and made it to the single lane. 7000 rpm in 1st and 2nd gear and still lost  . By the way the black car was a Pontiac GTO 5.7 LS1.

Hmm... they are pretty quick but, my gtx kept one behind it from a roll from second through third. Well... guess you will be needing to turbo your festiva. .

But consider this, for the cost of his seats, and cd player you probably got your car. haha.

His engine is probably 3/4 the weight of your entire car. You probably make half the hp he does with 30% the displacement.

I bet he was in a hurry to the nearest gas station.

Are you sure you weren't lulled into a false sense of security because it looked like a Cavalier?

Does anyone even know what a BP Festiva runs in the 1/4 mile? Matt, you should get on that

i've beat GTO's before in my MX3...last time i ran one was xmas day on my way back from my buddies house.

THere must be something wrong with ur BP if u can't beat a GTO. they run like a mid 14 stock right? I' think the bp festiva should run a really low 14 and a high 13 with slicks

Well, he said they started from a stand still, the GTO would have advantage being RWD. Over a quarter mile maybe but not first 200 feet.

              Thanks

The GTO 1/4 mile times are around 13.6. When I left the line I left easier than I would of if I'd known that the GTO was next to me. I still don't have a 1/4 mile time yet for the BP. I am hoping for low 14's and I don't have slicks. I suspect the GTO is a faster car than mine, my only advantage is the element of surprise.

                  I'm going to say.... 14.7@98mph.

14.7 because the BP has a lot of torque and it would be hard to hook up, especially on the slick drag track surface without slicks. You'd get bad 60's and that would kill the 1/4 mile time.

98mph because thats what I think a 1850lb car with 135hp would trap at.

                    GTO'S are low 13's 1/4 mile cars.
And their trap speed is over 100mph.

Are you sure it was the 5.7?
                    Cause the 2005 are 6.0 400hp.

assuming they can drive they are mid to high 13 second cars. I havent seen any mag reviews say they were in the low 13's.

The one I raced was a 5.7 for sure, it had the older body style.

And what tires are you running? I'd think that bp would be difficult to hook up with the amount of lowend it makes. Hell, i couldn't even hook up with my protege LX on normal street tires without spinning the crap out of them during a drag launch.
