Yep. In fact at the time the car magazines called it a Maz-tang due to its shared platform with the Mazda MX-6.

the TRX wheels have enough metal to be machined down to 14" safely. Otherwise, Coker carries the Michelin TRX tires (albeit VERY expensive).

Don't call her. Just show up at the door with cash. While you are telling her how much you will pay for it. Pull the cash out. I bet she will take it.

I would love to find a frog-eyed EXP myself! They changed to an aero headlamp in late '85 till they were discontinued in '88.

If you do get it, beware the engine. The blue valve cover 1.6L CVH engines are 'crash' engines, interference. More than 1 tooth off on the timing belt, and you're replacing valves, and maybe pistons or rods, if you don't crack the head or crank. Look for an '84 or '85 black valve cover 1.6L HO in the Escort GTs and wagons, then swap the whole thing. These engines are freewheeling.

My dad spends his retirement restoring old hotrods from his childhood. There is a super-rare 1957 Ford Fairlane with a retractable hardtop (worth $60,000-$80,000 restored. Or priceless) sitting in a field near my hometown in Nor-Cal. He would stop by there, trying everything he could to get the sweet old lady to sell, and he's got funds, no low-balling. She wouldn't think of it. That was her late husbands car, and he wouldn't have wanted to part with it. So it sits, top half opened, half closed, tires flat and buried up to the hubs in dried mud. Weeds--and even plants--growing up through the engine compartment. Interior getting beaten by sun, rain, wind, squirrels, etc. No only an absolute travesty, but down right criminal. He finally went over there with a large car cover, asking if she wouldn't mind him at least covering it up (she let him) He also offered to fully restore it, and let her drive it anytime she wanted, even staying in her legal ownership until she dies. Nope, can't do that, Henry wouldn't want it. Last I heard, it was still rotting away in that field. One of the rarest, most unique pieces of American automobile history.
                  Because....45 MPG.

Well the lady called me yesterday. She was telling me she talked to her friend who owns a tow truck company to see what he thought it was worth. He was telling her it wasnt a popular car and wasnt considered a "Classic". He told her it was only worth the price of scrap. She loved this car and as I stated before she bought it new. She was mad when he offered to haul it off for her and give her $150.00 for it as he would just scrap it. So when she called me and told me this story I said to here how would you like to drive it again when I get it running. She said she would love to and that she knows I would take care of it so I can have the car for ........................$150.00 Yey. She also said she would not sell it to anyone else and it will be setting there till I come get it.
I have learned over the years that if you put too much pressure on little old ladies the dont want to deal with you but just the right influence and they love you. Jeti mind control.
Anyway I just have to wait for my next paycheck and I will be bringing it home.
