I can get 40mpg out of the five speeds no matter how or where I drive. I can get 43-47 mpg hwy with the five speeds at 70mph. The best I ever got (under perfect conditions and less than hwy speeds) was 53mpg. Mine are in the best condition I can get them.

I think there is something wrong with mine because I only get about 25 mpg. I think it's running really rich and the carb needs adjusted but I don't know much about carbs.

My '89L 4 speed got about 33-38 mpg, depending on how I drove it. It had high miles, the carb was worn out and it had unequal cylinder compression so I'm not surprised with my fuel economy.

My EFI Festivas (91 and 93L 5 speeds) got no less than 40 mpg. The best I ever got was about 45 mpg on a long trip from Spokane to Kalispell.

The 93 Festy (Xtiva) 5spd I sold this past year averaged me 46mpg (w/best of 53). See link for gas log

My 97 Aspire (Xspire) 5spd will really vary depending on driving habits. Around town and/or 70+ on the highway speeds will only net me around 30-32mpg. If I drive 55-60mph max on the highway and let my speed bleed off up hills (draft a truck usually), I will get 42+ mpg.
