  • What could be considered the Ford Festiva's Rival?

I was comprising a list of the cars that could be considered as a rival for the Ford Festiva; mostly cars of the same years. Here's some of the cars I was thinking:

    VW Golf
    Dodge Omni
    Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift
    Mitsubishi Colt

Cars along those lines. What other cars would you think could be considered a competitor? This could be as a performance or gas stand-point.
    Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
    1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
    2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

I know nothing compares to it, just what would be considered as a somewhat-competitor.

I can agree with the Mitsu. Step daughter had a late 80s with twin stick transmission. Similar looking to the Festiva. Was a hoot to drive. Strong engine, nimble and solid. Two shift levers gave you lots of choices. Didn't they call it an E-stick or something catchy?

I've never heard of such a transmission. Sounds like it would be a hoot to drive in a 3 on the tree kind of way. Where can I find information on it?

My cousin had a Mitsu Tredia with one of those "Twin Stick" trannys. It had 8 gears (4 speed x 2). It was fun to drive, but I always thought a "One Stick" 5 speed would have done just as well.

I used to own (well, co-own, with my ex wife) a dodge Omni... except for all the rattles, it really wasn't a bad car at all. Pretty reliable, and sorta fun to drive.. Too bad it wasn't a GLH!!

I would add to this thread the Renault 5 (LeCar). Again, I did own one, and it was very reliable (must've been a fluke for a french-made car!). But it was weird. 3-lug wheels; spare tire on top of the engine; radio on the floor facing the headliner, etc.
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

I actually had one of those neat 'twin stick' Colts...an '83 model. You could say that it had 8 forward speeds, but using them that way was very impractical. Basically, I used it like a 5th gear...the stick looked just like any other 4-speed, but right next to the boot, there was a 2 position lever....forward, and you would have a bit better power...pull it back made the gears a bit taller. The Colt was a great little car and the only car I've owned that was even close to the kind of fun driving you get in a Festy.

Daewoo, must be the reason i haven't seen a LeMans in many moons.

Probably had two different final drives. I don't recall a 4wd Colt.
