They have been using the same fry oil for the last 70 years. Not the same BRAND, but the exact same oil that was there 70 years ago! They've just cleaned it every day for the past 70 years!!
They say that's what gives the food that special taste....
Impossible....they would have to top off the tank sooner or later...after 70 years....they should have addd enough to chang the tank many times over.

I know what oil they use

True story. A salesman went knocking on the doors of all resaurants, and claimed he had a miracle oil that never broke down or went rancid. His claims were true. Perfect fries every time, and they only had to skim and remove sediment. And it was cheap too!

The only trouble was that it was used PCB oil from hydro transformers.
People were unknowingly eating stuff fried in it!
        Talk about an experiment.

I know the resturant your talking about it was on that SHow "Diners, Dives and Drive ins on the food network. I think they just topped it off, but the stuff was really really dark.

Frying oil cooks off and is absorbed into the foods cooked in it, so yes they would eventually use up the original oil even deluted with new stuff.

Even given the age of the oil. The food there is still probably better for you than anything at MickeyDs or BK!

It's a myth that motor oil decomposses and loses its properties. As long as you keep your oil at a normal operating level you should never have problems with it. I know of a friend that went 78k on a nissan sentra brand new from factory. Changed the oil, everything was fine. I wouldn't advise doing any of this though.

I've always been under the impression that dirt and other contaminents cause the oil to break down and lose it's lubricative and protective abilities... If the above was true wouldn't we all change our oil at 75k miles instead of 3k?

Care to back that up with some documentation? Here are articles stating that oil DOES break down:

                    Jello

I knew a guy who never changed the oil in his truck until the day the engine seized up.
When the mechanic removed the oil pan plug, nothing came out. It had turned to Jello!

I'm just thinking about the mileage problems. Oil can help increase the engines efficiency. I think you're crazy for doing that!!!

I read it in a popular mechanics magazine about 2-3 weeks ago in biolife donating plasma. It did have any back-up info but stated that the oils property does not break down. Another myth that was on there was letting your car "warm up" in cold weather climates doesn't help any either. I'll have to get the magazine the next time I'm in there and take it home with me.

my very first truck was a 85 4x4 s10 blazer.
it had about 300,000 original miles when i got it.
i had it for another year, maybe 25,000 miles with NEVER opening the hood, not even once.
then one day i hit a pole and dented hood to where it couldnt open.
drove another 10,000 miles before my step dad totaled it.
WOULD NEVER DO THAT NOW THOUGH!
