  • wierd suspension noises

    OK,

I got alignment done on the Festiva and I dont know what they losened or tightened but when I drive and turn right there's a crackling noise (like if you squat down and your knee pops) on the right front of the suspension. Same thing when I turn to the left.

Has anyone experienced a problem like this? Now keep in mind, I went underneath and tightened every single nut n bolt visible to man! All were fine not lose at all. Brackets all there, bushings replaced new, new shocks, new wheels and tires, newly rebuilt Aspire hubs all around with new pads and shoes along with the new sway bar. I am getting pissed off so if anyone has an ideas I will try them. I must be missing something but what????

    Thnx

Ball joints? Mine made that sort of noise just before the drivers side broke on me.

did they replace the ball joint pinch bolts? i've been having a lot of trouble lately with the pinch bolts not holding the ball joint in place and when accelerating it made a "clunk" noise, i beleive i finally have this problem solved

Hmmm...I replaced the whole arm (brand new)including pinch bolts...hmmmmm...I wonder if I should change them again? Good spot, even though I know they are tight. Ball joints are brand new too...I just had them put in cause of the Aspire brake swap.

Check and make sure everything is tight and right, I had a spring not seated right and everytime I turned it made a funny popping noise.

I had a noise coming from the strut mount when I turned. I guess the bearing in it wasn't very free or just worn out or something

When mine were replaced they installed a standard sized bolt which left a slight amount of play, even though the bolt was tight it still wouldn't hold the ball joint, if you decide to replace them again, use a 10mm hardened bolt and be and make sure when the bolt is installed the ball joint doesn't ride on the threads to wear the bolt down (i had that problem as well)

That's a great possibility! I would presume in an alignment they would probably tighten the strut nut?! Huh? When turning the spring would skip the spring seat.....

Yup...I checked the bolts...they are new originals....ones that actually are made to hold the ball joint.

Well I took the top shock mounts apart...one of the plastic "bearings" was kinda screwed up so I got a newer one at the junk yard. Just put it in so I doono yet it that fixed the problem. Drove few miles since and it seems its not creeping when I make a sharp turn into the driveway, sooooo hopefully that was it!

                              Thnx for asking
