The threads on close encounters or near misses with the local constabulary reminded me of a ticket I didn't get.
One of my older boys and I were heading up to Lake Louise from Calgary for a day of skiing/snowboarding. I was Friday night and running a little late and we were nearing our desination at around 10pm running at about 120 km/h in a 90 zone. I saw the police car coming towards us and thought immediately ooops! I said to Jordan that I thought I was going to get pulled over and sure enough the police car turned around and caught up to us pretty quickly with lights flashing.
I pulled over right away... the officer came to the window and asked if I knew why I was being stopped and I said that I was going a little fast. He said that he had clocked us at 119km/hr and asked for all my papers. He came back to the car and said that I had "exceeded the speed limit by $138.00" (this was about 6 years ago, the fines have increased substantially since then) asked if I knew what the limit was. I said 90 and then he replied that I should keep a little closer to the limit, handed me back my papers with NO ticket.
The funny thing about the whole incedent is that we were trying to do the ski day on the cheap... we were driving a Festiva (my old white one), we were staying at the youth hostel and I had picked up our lift tickets on Airmiles! My wife would not have been very happy if I had come home with the ticket:grin:
Anyone else with a story to tell?
