  • magnetic oil pan heater

Have any of you used one of those magnetic oil pan heaters before. I just want the oil to be warm in the cold mornings here in Colorado. I dont care about heat as much as i would like the oil to be warm when i start up the grey ghost to get around engine faster.

ive installed them on alot of our equipment at work
i just installed 6 in series on the hydrolic tank on are firewood processer (gotta love anything that cut and split a cord of wood in less than 16 minutes!)
we recently had a -9 night an when i checked the temp guage on the hydro tank it was a toasty 51 degrees.
we run them on all are f-550's and the peterbuilts with no problem.

are they by any chance a Katz brand, and if so, approxiamately what wattage. I have seen two types also, one that you attach using a caulk and the other is simply magnetic.

Last week we had -20s and the Festy started with no heater. The Jeep had to have a heater installed. When I lived in Anchorage, I had a block heater, oil pan heater, and a warmer plate under the battery.

ty guys for your feedback. My festiva does start up every morning hotfordcat also, but i figured if it was warmer when i start it up, its a whole lot easier on the engine so i think i will go get a block heater elcomino. I've had them before, just got to figure out best place to put it. Again , ty guys

I put a kats circulating tank coolant heater in. When I leave for work in the morning at a quarter after 5 the entire engine is as hot as if it had been running for hours. Instant heat out of the vents on startup. Not to mention easier startups. Also cold starts are horrible on gas.

Im not really worried about oil, I run synthetic 5w20.

If you do decide to go with a block heater, the instructions that come with it tell you which frost plug to put it in. It's been a long time since I've done one, but I know it's on the back side of the engine, and I think it's the third one from the driver's side, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
