i just ran across this diagram and thought it may help you w/ narrowing down why the linkage/shifter isnt staying up inside the car. good luck.

WOW! Thank You for all the responses, I really appreciate it. I own a 1993 Lexus SC400 as well, and the club lexus forum members never respond that emphatically or that fast. To respond to the questions that were replied to...
I did notice that when the seat was folded up there was that flap, but no gas smell coming from there. That is the location of the fuel pump? Yes? I think it's narrowed down to an exhaust leak, I will check tomorrow. Also, thank you for the diagram. I believe my WHOLE housing was never bolted on! so it was only a matter of time for the gasket to deteriorate, thus leading to the "fall".
Just to give some specs on my Festiva: It's a 1990, not sure if it's a GL, L, or any other model they made. I'm not sure what seperates each model. It has 160,596 miles, 5-speed manual. Turquoise in color. Bought it for $600 CASH, clear title, registered, and inspected...can't beat that.

That door and fender had to of been changed at one point. Like the looks of it tho!

I think the previous owner told me he took off the design pattern thing because he didn't like it...then decided not to do the other side? I think it's hillarious either way, and I really like the turquoise anyhow.
