  • tach question

lol ok so last night i bought a tach off my friend for like 15 bucks and got it installed then i noticed it was an 8 cyl tach... how much will this make a difference in a festy?

if its a autometer or autogauge you need to cut certain wires in the back to make it give the correct 4cyl tach reading in cant rember if you cut both wires are not but there looped in the back check out autometers website and go to directions

i had an rx7 tach in my festy for a while and later in my 5.0 LTD... I think it read fine in both cars... but it was a factory tach, not and aftermarket unit.
        No festiva for me ATM...

i've had an aftermarket tach in my car, if it's set for an 8 cyl. then it will probably read half the actual RPM I.E. the 4 cyl is revving at 2k RPM and the tach is reading 1k RPM, or vise-versa i can't quite remember

          1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
          1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

i remember playing with that switch on my old tach and watching the needle drop lower and lower with each setting and not touching the throttle

Yea, I've got an electronic tach (part of a multi-meter type tool) that can do 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 cyl cars. I was checking out my mini-bike once (1cyl), so I just set it on 2 cyl, and halved the result.
Your going to need to double your result, unless there is a switch/jumper on the back of the tach to adjust it. If its after market, you should deff be able to adjust it.

There's probably a switch on the back to select the number of cylinders.
