i agree 100% with hthbk... thats why here there is the midnight drags in the summer for the HS guys and anybody to get that racing burn out driving out of them for $20 and all the races they want.. ... and it has cut down drastically on the street races b/c all kids will do that stuff regardless... and now they can do it legally.

so because there were a few idiots not using common sense, nobody should race?? thats like saying nobody should ride a motorcycle because someone just got killed on one. there will always be an exception to the rule for anything you can think of.
i think the biggest hazards on the streets are the road controllers trying to stop people from racing. i`m talking about people that speed up when you are trying to pass them, putting your life in jeopardy. also people that cut in front of you when you are coming up along side them, some will slam their brakes on top of that.
what i do is more just playing around, i rarely go over 100. my car is strong out of the hole, so i`ll usually get the chirp into 3rd and then let off at about 70, while being aware of what is around me. if there was a free legal track to race on, that would be fine too, but there is NOT.

I totally agree with Htchbck. No matter how great of a driver you think you are your not driveing both cars, and it's easy to get stupid in the heat of a race. As to Ruppen, your thoughts remind me of me 10 years ago,and now looking back on what I thought was cool fun, I realize how close I actually came to being in the same shoes as the camero driver.

Note to street racers.... you are not invincible, it's not "the other drivers" you have to worry about, speeding (whether racing or not) is illegal.
Do I speed? Sometimes, more than I should. Have I tried to beat someone away from a light? Yep. Does that make it right because nobody issued me a ticket or I didn't hit anyone? No!
How about this for boneheads.... a guy was pulled over last night, street racing in Edmonton, with his 15 month old child in the back seat. Enough said

I know what you are doing, breaking the law.... It doesn't matter that "everyone" does, it is still illegal. I try to drive legally, and I drive under the assumption that everyone else is trying to also. That is how 99% of drivers operate. We can't be prepared for people breaking the law all over the place. I personally would like to see more people getting arrested and fined for racing on the streets trying to kill people.Last edited by nonamekid; 03-31-2009, 03:43 PM.The Festiva Store

I totally agree, racing on the street is reckless, pointless, and just plain shows a lack of self control behind the wheel.89 Festiva L Carby 4 Speed... RIP. Evicted and Scrapped. I HATE MY FAMILY

i will admit i'm guilty of drag racing down back roads from time to time but the spot where i do it, there is no houses, no people, nothing but trees so i do not put anyone at risk by my stupidity
i will not do any kind of circuit style racing through any town cause you never know what lyes around the corner

Street racing culture is nearly as vile as gang culture, and displays the same stampede towards ignorance and blind fetishism of an impossible ideal. They show up at the track believing they are Mika Häkkinen reborn(except they don't know who he is) and wind up being beaten by a fat man in a festiva. Unfortunately they usually never come back, and so never actually learn how to drive.
Racing cars on a road course is expensive because of the cost of keeping a track operating. They've got a ton of maintenance, corner workers to pay, medical crews to pay, etc. It's not like there's some grand conspiracy inflating the prices, it's just the cost of racing in a safe and controlled setting.
If you don't want to race, but want to drive fast on a road course, you can do a track day for $100-300/day. If you want to race, and don't care about turning right, you can do hornet racing on a dirt/clay oval for $50-100/day.OX SMASH!!

i`m just too outnumbered to even bother trying to put up an arguement, plus people are too thickheaded to hear anything but what they think is right. go to any sport compact forum and try making a post like this, you will see i am not alone. i have a feeling half of the people in this thread are hypocrits and the other half drive like grandma and get in a huff whenever somebody passes them. get a fun, quick car and then see if you never find yourself playing around with other cars. i know for sure that people aren`t building these bp, b6t, and b3t festivas for mpgs and to go slow. i also highly doubt they are waiting until every friday night to drive an hour to the track and pay $30 so they can race.
