Well a bit late on this thread, and i am going to revive this one, but the blue Yugo that someone mentioned above was mine. It was a sweet car, and now that i sold mine i want one again. It was a basic car, but it was soooooo fun, unless you owned or drove one you might not understand. Here is this link to mine. Mine is the blue one BTW:

    I love yugos.

PS: With the Fiat 1.5L block and the Yugo 1.1L head it had roughly 11:1 compression! WOW: F U N

I saw a red Yugo in great shape yesterday.

        ...at the junkyard.

They were made so incredibly poorly I'm surprised there are any left on the road!

But I want one just for the novelty of it.

        Regards,

Years ago I bought a new Yugo in 1988 for $3,000. They came with a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty, and I figured if it lasted for 50,000 miles and fell flat on its face I would've lost more in depreciation on any other car. Well I was in a travel status with my cushy govt. job at the time. I drove it for 4 years, put over 142,000 miles on it, collected over $23,000 in mileage. I spent less than $100. in un-scheduled maintenance, and when I traded it off, it still had the original brakes and clutch. I ran Mobil-1 oil in it,(changed oil and filter every 5,000 miles), and most of the miles were on the highway. When I traded it it didn't leak or burn oil. It NEVER left me stranded. They were built like the old cars with thick sheet metal too. Politics, civil war, and the scandle with the Lincoln Thrift and Savings, (who backed Yugo America) killed them here. They are back producing cars after NATO bombed the factory, and I think we'll see them return to the USA in a few years. Everyone got scared about getting parts, and when Yugo America folded, dealers were selling left over brand new Yugo's for as low as $1,000! I was up in Iowa on a job and almost bought one for $1,500!,(but it was a dark blue and I was holding out for another white Yugo). The last Yugo's had a Bosh fuel injection system and 5 speed transmission, unlike my carb'ed version and 4 speed.

I almost forgot.....at 100,000 miles I figured out with my total cost of the car, including insurance, gas, oil, filters, tires, etc., my Yugo cost me less than 5 cents a mile to own and drive. Now THAT'S CHEAP!

          I miss my good-old Yugo!

            damn you guys lol....hot topic..yugo

I should scan the old consumer reports I have.

The first issue had the Yugo on teh cover titled "How much car for $3995?"

They only reviewed the yugo in the issue (i think) and it was rated HORRIBLY.

Then the next year (in 88) they had a festiva on the cover and titled it "how much car for $5999" or something like that. They compared the festiva to the yugo & one other car i think.

I'll try to get pics of teh article (don't have a scanner at the moment) and post them up here.

I need web hosting though I currently have no way to access my website, my account is frozen.

No it is not the stock Yugo engine, it is a Fiat X19 1.5L block with a 1.1L Yugo head. Really high compresion engine and is a easy revver. If i had kept it, dual 40 carbs would go on it and i would get a hotter cam.

The isetta is a turbocharged hyabusa powered, custom space( or something like that) frame. Does the quarter in 12 sec, only cause it gets scary if you push it any more. Sweet car, belongs to some guy in Britian

I think the vega was an alum block with a cast iron head.
                      93 festiva
the only car I have ever own with no mods.

I have seen this Yugo it was REALLY nice! If I had the money I would have bought it just to have it. When I asked him "why a Yugo" his reply was that he couldn't find a clean Festiva to put a B6T in! The part that impressed me most about the Yugo was that this kid doesn't even drive yet and he built a really nice car! I can't wait to see what cars he builds as he gets more experienced!

Correction on the Vega.....Aluminum block and head. The problem with the engine was the block.....it was an aluminum piston against aluminum cylinder walls. If you got it hot, it would eat itself. GM lost a ton of money and had to recall the engines. The new blocks were sleeved with a steel liner, and they were a pretty nice engine.
