  • Cross-country road trip! Let the Fun Begin!

    Hi everyone,
Well, at long last, after being here in SoCal for more than 3 years, I am finally going home to Pittsburgh! As some of you know, I've been wanting to go back for about 2 years, but things have never worked out. This time all the pieces have come together. I have obtained a 1-BR apartment for only $400 month, NO security deposit, ALL utilities included! Includes a patio and fireplace in the bedroom. Also many job interviews lined up, and one in particular seems very interested in me already.

I have been getting the mighty DeathEgg ('88 Festy, 209k) ready for the long trip. New tires today (wow, 12" tires are hard to find), changed oil and filter, fixed gas leak, wash and wax, new front speakers, etc. I think she's good to go! I was hoping to have time to make a front air dam for better aerodynamics, but don't think I'll have time. Rear seat and all A/C equipment are gone, which makes the car a little lighter.

I leave Friday morning Oct 9. Will be stopping along the way to see some cool Rt.66 sights along the way, such as Cadillac Ranch in Texas and the Blue Swallow motel in NM.

If anyone is willing, I would like some names and contact info for FF.com members who live near the route home, just in case run into car trouble. Even if I don't have trouble, maybe just getting a chance to meet some members would be great.

    Here is my route:

Rts 15 and 40 in CA.
Interstate 40 through AZ, NM, TX, and to Oklahoma City.
Interstate 44 from Oklahoma City to St.Louis
interstate 70 from St.Louis to Pittsburgh

PM me if you want my phone #.
I plan on updating my Facebook page with new pictures every night, so if you're a Facebook member, just search for Mark Scatena, and you can see my pics, etc.
Also will most likely start a new thread just for pictures from the trip.

    Can you tell I'm excited?
Wish me luck and say some prayers for a safe trip.

If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

Congrats and have a safe trip!

Don't forget to check your brakes, wheel bearings, and rear spindles.

It's a long haul so bring some extra gas, oil, brake fluid, tools, first aid kit, flares ect.

Thanks guys for the kind offers. Yes, let me check my schedule (where I'll be and when), and I'll PM you later today. Would like to have a mini-meet etc. Yes, I'll have internet at all motels along the way, so I can come here to see updates.

I'm not a big fan of Facebook myself, but I do have some far-away friends and family that use it, so that's why I'll be updating it.

mojo for your trip. I was a truck driver, and I know those guys will help you if ever needed. I lost my wallet at a truck stop and the driver who found it,(was pouring down rain that night) pulled everything out and dried it on his dash. we met up a couple states later and EVERYTHING was there! just my two cents
