Long story short, I'm thinking about buying this car and want your help, advice, and to pick your brains:
The good:
- 88 (carbed, duh)
- 5 Speed
- The tan interior seems to be in decent shape, with the exception of the driver's seat
- NO RUST!
- Factory air (condition unknown)
- only piece missing is the factory radio
- it's a light blue i've never seen before
The bad:
- Dent in rear quarter panel
- needs a windshield as it's cracked
- hasn't run in two years
- needs "transmission work" (the car goes into every gear, which leads me to believe it's either the master cylinder or clutch)
- it's gonna need rubber. (tires, coolant hoses)
- needs a battery, which i happen to already have
- the key is broke off in the ignition, but has extra with key
- needs a power cable for the battery
- needs a really good bath.. everywhere
The things that might work, but I'd want to replace anyway:
- distributor
- alternator
- water pump
- timing belt!
- oil
- all filters, spark plugs, wires etc
So the rundown is, if he can get it running again (he said it ran great when it did), i've worked out a deal with him.
What are ya'll experiences with prices on these pieces? What would you pay for it? Is it worth it?
Bottom line, I'm looking to save a Festiva and have it reliably back on the road for around $5-600 including cost of the car. That leaves me $2-300 to play with initially. Other stuff (such as mods) can come later. I will have 2 and a half weeks to get this car into shape for me to drive 45 minutes to and from work 5 days a week and around town on the weekends. I don't mind putting in the time or effort or reasonable amounts of money. What are your views??
I'm sure I left something out, so if you have any questions, ask away.
