not sure if an escort popper will work. Look for a tracer or a 323, 89 to maybe 91"FLTG4LIFE" @FINALLEVEL , "PBH"

Getting a trunk or gas lid popper out of a 323 or Protege will involve removing the interior carpet and pieces on that side. If you find a car with some of that already done, it could be easier.
I've never removed one myself, but upon removal you should see how it would be installed in a Festiva. Shouldn't be too difficult, but perhaps time intensive?
I can't recall if you need to drill an extra or larger hole in the Festy gas inlet wall (under the lid where the rubber bumpstop/latch is) or if the bumpstop/latch hole will provide the necessary hole itself when swapping parts.
Also, I'm not sure if the cable runs just under the carpet, the rocker cover, or has to be run through the body/rocker panel itself. I do recall that the cable loops around behind the gas door area inside the body and goes into the bumpstop/latch area to effect the remote unlatching.

They were offered on 121s and prides. I have this set from a pride. They are a direct fit on a festiva. If you look inside the gas door there is a place for the cable to come through. Also on the latch and hatch latch there is a slot for the cable to connect.
It requires removing the plastic on the left side and pulling the door sill plate and pulling the carpet back. I have not seen the escort ones, but maybe you can use these pics to compare.Last edited by David88; 11-21-2009, 01:25 PM.'89L 110k mi. BP/G swapped

Looks pretty straightforward. I think the hardest part would be removing the cable and parts from the donor car, because most of us aren't as familiar with 323s as we are our own cars.
It would mainly be a time consuming job, that's all. Not beyond most or our abilities.
David, am I right in thinking those remote cables are one unit? That's what it looks like.

So if you don't want to hook up the hatch popper, you can just leave that cable coiled up under your trunk plastic, right?
