  • Stepped up enforcement

Our local authorities are stepping up traffic enforcement.

This means the local constabularies are ticketing all the time, rather than the usual 28 to 31st that we had gotten used to. They have always officially denied there being quotas, but we know that to be a lie.

I'm no speed demon, in fact, if I have the road to myself, I tend to drive 5 clicks slower than the posted limit. It's leisurely, saves gas & it's easy on the car.

If I try to do this at peak hours, I'll get rear ended. So I follow the flow of the traffic. I've had 3 near misses, where I knew I was speeding, and either the cop decided I wasn't going fast enough, or for whatever reason, he didn't flag me.

I don't want to participate in the municipal fund raising that local police mascarades as "traffic enforcement" so I went & bought this:

I also purchased the stealth display, so that I can avoid getting "hangers on".

Does anyone else here use detectors?
Mon arme a moi, c'est un stylo.

I used to have a V1 but I found it too sensitive for my everyday driving, so I sold it. I think it would be better for someone who drives long stretches on the highway. Hopefully you like it. I only paid $17 for mine at an estate auction though and it was the newest version.

In Theory that works just fine. But in so many places, including where I live, if you do the Right Thing & drive the speed limit in traffic... you WILL summarily be run over by all the VIP's (Very Impatient...uhhh...People)! LOL!

I have a Solo radar detector from Escort. I really like it because it's battery powered and has no cord.

Just stick to the backroads and know where the cops are and you'll be fine

I've looked into it before - the passports have good reviews and I've heard good things about the solos - I cant justify spending 300 on them though

Got one in both vehicles. They have saved me a couple of times. Of course, knowing where the cops sit on my normal routes helps also.

I've never even been pulled over in my festiva, since it seems to enjoy cruising at 55-60MPH all day long. I've been pulled over in everything else I drive though.

In complete agreement regarding stepped up enforcement (as they call it) the gov. is doing everything it can to generate revenue (since the economy at large was looted once again) drivers are easy targets, they have the guns and the cuffs, they hold all the cards.

My local CUB (grocery store) allows various groups to bag your groceries (with an expected donation) the last one was some kind of police fund raising thing...I not so kindly said, "no way, no thanks!" when they offered to bag my 12 items.
