1988 Festiva Tire pressure?

I just purchased a little red 88 festiva. I can't find the specs on what the tire pressure should be on the front and back. Can anyone help me out with this?

According to the sticker on my door jam, here's the specs.

For 145/12 (front and rear) 32 psi
For 165/70/R12s (front and rear) 29 psi
FWIW, I run 155/R12s and kind of split the difference, running them at 30 psi.

Can't get either size here, only option for 12" tires is 155/R12s which I generally run at around 30-31 psi.

Look at the tires. The air pressure is listed on the tire. Run it at pressure listed. I run mine at 35 lbs(a couple pounds over)

I don't run 44, that is just the max on the side of the tire, I wouldn't recommend running 44 psi.

I run at least sidewall pressure. I'm a mileage freak though so the firmer the tire the better.

I run 40+PSI in all my tires without problems. It helps quite a bit with MPG's

the listed tire presure on the side wall of any tire is the MAXIMUM cold pressure at maximum load. typically a 12" tire is rated at just over 1000lB at 35psi (except in the case of Kuhmo where it's 44 IIRC) anyway, that one tire is good to hold half a Festy all by itself, and you have 4 of them meaning that each tire is working at half capacity. so with this information, you can gather that a tire, if inflated to its maximim limit at half it's rated load, will be OVER INFLATED. over inflating a tire causes excessive center tread wear, and reduces grip (smaller contact patch).

in short, don't follow the numbers on the tire, go with the tag on our car. if you want a little extra milage from a tank, add another 2-3psi and that's it...

I think I read that this isnt as much of a problem on a modern radial tire as an old bias ply tire. I personally havent had this problem.

^it will be more prevailent on wider tires, but it's still an issue with radials.
