an introduction...
After a good couple months of research, looking at 4 or 5 Festivas online and test driving 2 others, I finally found mine. Even with all the research I still wasn't sure if I wasn't downgrading (hence the title), but I liked the looks and the community seemed better than what I was currently driving, a 4 cylinder automatic Geo Metro.
I drove over and test drove the car. The guy wanted $600 for it as he had purchased it in Michigan and drove it into Wisconsin, but wanted something bigger for work.
The Festiva is an red '89 L with just shy of 145000. The car was dirty and dented but it's 21 years old. The worst parts were that the windshield was cracked bad in 3 places and it has the rear wheel area rust. Other than that the car is in great shape, engine seemed mechanically in great shape and transmission was nice and tight. I offered the guy $400 for it and without too much thought, the car was mine, well sort of.
It took another month before I got the title (he had to get the title from MI and then it got lost in the mail). I finally titled the car and have been driving her since the beginning of May. I have to say this car is an incredible upgrade. For only 58 HP it is an amazing little 'race car.'
I have had a few issues in that time (gas tank seam leak, dieseling and burning oil on start-up) but overall these cars are awesome.
Pics to follow (when I figure it out)
