Hey all, I'm going out today or tomorrow to look at a motor, what things should I look at to check it? If it were in a car, I'd like to hear it run, or at least check fluids and compression, but this one is pulled already. If anyone has any experience buying used motors, please give with the info!

generally look for any signs of cracks or warping and if at all possible open the cam shaft cover to look and see for burn marks or burnt oil. If its clean most things to look for are obvious but if its already pulled its gonna be hard to tell if it has any internal damage. Rotate the crank shaft and have some one look in it to make sure all pistons are moveing and listen for any abnormal noises when cranking it.ParkerComment
