Thats a good question, considering they won't give you any specs for their camshafts. If I remember from the one time they actually posted the specs on Ebay, the Comp spec cam was just under .500 lift and duration was pretty low. They advertise an RPM range of 2500 to redline and a smooth idle. Obviously, the race spec is higher duration with more overlap. They advertise a minimum of 10:1 compression and a rough idle, so that translates into a weak low end and strong mid to top end. As engine displacement increases, the effect of any given cam spec becomes more mild. In other words, the "race" cam would be slightly less aggressive in a B6 than in a B3.

I'm not saying the "race" version is a bad cam. I don't believe that FMS would sell junk. But personaly, if I was building a N/A race motor that requires a cam that aggressive, I would want one that I could get the specs to before I buy it. Things like valve spring pressures, lift, lobe centers, timing events, etc. are important if you're building a serious race motor. That said, I wouldn't consider the race cam for a B3 build, but in a high compression street B6 with ported head and a header, it would probably be fun, and certainly different, as long as it's not a daily driver. Then again, it's not cost effective to build such a radical motor when a stock B6T, B8ME or BP swap (or even just adding a turbo like many on here have done) is cheaper & easier. Back when FMS first started selling the cams, motor swaps were not near as common. Hope this helps.

yea it did thanks. right now seens it is very uncommon to see allot of b8,b6,or bps around chicago to buy , i decided to turbo my stock festiva. really looking for someone that has a manifold for turbo for the stock b3, that i can buy off of anyone.

You'll probably have better luck finding a BP from an Escort GT rather than a turbo-ready manifold for a B3.

If I remember correctly the cams are made by a company in Australia.

I think you're right. I believe the headers are the same way.

Yes FMS does get the exhaust headers from Austalia, removes the company's label, then resells it.

And where are you looking or easier to say not looking for them? I know of 2 b6t's in the area's junkyard, 5 old style b6's, a whole lotta newer b6's and quite a few bp's & b8's.

So no one knows the actual specs of either cam? Has anyone called or emailed FMS and asked for this info? Somebody has to have it to grind the things.

EDIT: Something else that just hit me. If the smaller the displacement the more aggressive the effect for a given cam spec, could you rob the stock cam from a junkyard b6 for a cheap upgrade to the b3?

Dunno haven't thought about that. If you gave a micrometer you can test that thought.

No. The factory B3 & B6 cams are the same. The effect displacement has on the camshaft profile does not make a huge difference. Larger displacement requires more air flow, so as a rule of thumb, cams in larger engines have more lift and slightly longer duration. In the case of engine families that share a common block (or head), more often the cam profiles are the exact same. Sometimes the valve sizes are increased to compensate (like a B3/B6). For example, a brand "X" performance cam with 218/220 @ .050" and .498"/.527" lift in a SB Ford (say 289 or 302) would be a nice midrange 2200-5500 rpm profile. If you look at the same brand "X" cam for an FE block (390 or 428) it may be 220/224 and .520"/.545" lift to have the same basic characteristics and RPM range. This same cam would idle slightly rougher in a 289 than a 302, or a 390 than in a 428, but most people never even notice or care. Make sense?

I have a FMS cam that I bought from them. It did not come with any spec sheet, so I called. The guy I talked to didn't know the specs and said he would find out & email me back. He never did. They don't design them or have the cams ground just for them, they buy them from some cam company (probably over-sees) and just re-sell them.
