I did a cross country trip a number of years ago about this time of year. When I left my brother's place in CA headed east, it was a beautiful day but as the altitude climbed, the snow started to fall. By the time I got to Flagstaff, it was coming down so hard, only a couple of truckers and my pickup were still on the road. Spent the night there and the next morning there was over a foot of snow on the ground. Left Flag and found one plowed lane on the interstate where I soon fell in to line behind a plow and a string of cars. As the altitude dropped, the snow on the ground did too. Within an hour, I was below the snow line and back up to speed. It was a great trip and I would love to do it again, but watch the weather in those higher altitudes.1992 Green GL - "It's not easy being green" - Kermit - RIP killed by a tree

Good luck. Help is available in the greater St. Louis area.
Take a laptop or Smartphone to keep an eye on the weather and to stay in touch with the forum. Report your position coordinates so we can track your adventure.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

"Travel companion" makes a lot of sense. "My car's not as small and we'll fit better and it's newer and I really don't want to RISK a BIGGER adventure than I really can tolerate..."

Yes - we did end up bringing my brothers subaru, an 98 outback sport... we were so crammed in the festy and the 13s were rubbing like crazy. He's driving the festy for the week :p
Only 25mpg, but cruise control, ac, and a lot more room has been worth it. Plus we have seen a loot of snow. A few pics are on facebook:
Off to sleep in the tent... -5* windchill this evening... woot!~Nate
