All I can say is there has never been an easier car to push start. I have done it countless times. My favorite way to wow people with a pop start is...
1. left foot on pavement
2. right foot on clutch
3. push the festy backwards with left foot
4. release then depress clutch
If your festy runs like a festy it will start with VERY little speed or trouble. I've even done it on a carbed festy.
I also drove a beetle with no starter for a few weeks. I parallel parked downtown in front of my rich girlfriend's dad's office! I pushed it back, turned the wheel, pushed it out, hopped in, threw it in gear, and popped the clutch. If It saves money I'd do it.
