I have 4 Festiva keys from 4 other different cars. None will open the doors or start my Festy. I must have an oddity.
Heck, I cant slam my door when locking it, or the little "push the lock back up" rods get tangled and I cant turn the key to unlock it! Not without a lot of jiggleing and handlepopping to get them back in place so I can unlock it.

When I was looking at my 89, it took longer than I would have liked to catch the owner at home. Ended up firing the car up with my 88 key. Resisted the urge to actually take it out for a spin, as the neighbors were giving me funny looks.

I used my brothers 91 gl key in my 91 L and it fired it right up. Went to the store, came back out to start it and sure enough the key wouldnt turn the ignition over. After that it never worked again, the key that is.

How many other 18+ yr old vehicles have you heard about that are still on the road and have a forum willing to discuss the issue?

but before anyone.... gets all huffy just because I have never heard of this doesnt mean it isnt a problem. All I was simply stating is that I have never had this problem an nore have I heard about it other than with festiva.

Don't see anyone getting "huffy" just pointing out that the locks are likely worn given that many of these cars have seen 100 to 200K miles by now.
And of those two (grand prix and F100) is there a support group this large willing to go into the details of such issues?
Might that be why you've never heard of it?

Well seeming that the gp is a g body which includes alot of cars im sure their is multiple groups this size. But as I believe I have said in a different post I agree that the age and original cost of these vehicles has alot to do with it.

That makes sense, because I could use a Casper key to either unlock or start, or both, all four of my Festys, back when I had four.

My mom's first L could be started and the key pulled out and driven without it. That was interesting.

My car is like that. It's actually kind of useful. Sometimes I start my car to warm it up at my apartment, work, or gas station and then can lock the doors and take the keys with me.
